Tony Grimes in the portal again

Seemed like a fair and sincere question to me.

I don't think it's a crazy proposition to note Grimes has not been very productive in his three seasons at UNC. He's got 97 tackles, 3.5 TFLs, 1 INT, 1 Sack, 1 FF, and 19 PDs over three seasons (including 28 starts). All-ACC Honorable Mention in 2021. He was on some pre-season lists as a breakout candidate this year. Instead he went backwards and didn't even get ACC honors this season (as a junior). That's underwhelming for a guy as highly ranked as he was. Reclassifying may be part of the explanation, sure, but let's not pretend Grimes has been lighting it up the way we'd expect for a 5-star CB.

Kid was never as fast as everyone claimed he was. Idc if he has verified times, don’t post them. He doesn’t play like he runs a 4.4.

Dre Bly is also a worse DB coach than Addae. Grimes is still the same player he was when he walked on campus. Hasn’t gotten an ounce better. He needs to go somewhere with a real technician as their DB coach.

People may not like his tape from UNC but as a true frosh he showed promise. This year UNC hired a DC who was retired for 10 years lol. I’ll take grimes in a heart beat kids got elite traits

UNC did this kid no favors and he played on a defense where he was asked to do to much to soon.

Similar to Flowe he may have peaked. Bit a change in scenery and a different scheme could light a fire

The portal isn’t going to fill up with superstars it’s going to be kids like this looking for a fresh start or kids who dominated lower levels that want to prove they can do it at a p5. The staff just have to figure which ones fit our puzzle the best and hope for a high hot rate.

WTF does that have to do with a bust or not fitting in?

You think those questions are legit? Then you you should be saying the same questions about the other 8k+ football players in the portal.

He's been a starter for 2 straight years. He's obviously one of their best DBs or he wouldn't have been a starter.

Maybe he wants a big NIL. Maybe it's something different.

He's making a choice.

The fixation on a UNC player in the portal is mind boggling that someone thought it deserved a thread here on CIS and to ask questions that no one on CIS could or should know the answer to.

You may need to sit this one out because your arguments are emotional, wildly overreaching, and baseless. Same question for everyone else in the portal? Lol. Is everyone else in the portal a 5* who underproduced in 3 seasons and never took the next step in his development? Of course not.

And being one of UNC's best CBs is like being the best reader in your remedial English class. Their secondary has been atrocious and it's a question of weak options. Look no further than our own roster. DJ Ivey has started at CB here the last 2 seasons also. It doesn't mean he's a good CB.

As far as fixation, he's a former top 5 player at a position of need who played in our conference and is now in the portal. There are threads on other players in the portal asking about them. Your over-the-top, emotional responses in this thread indicate you are the one fixated with this player.
