Tonight

Eh I disagree sure those games were big and had huge implications ACCCG but we haven't been to a bowl game in years so I tend to think this is a much bigger game. Just for that fact alone and because of all the time and preparation leading up to this game, all the extra practices too. It doesn't hurt that its against the so called next Jacory Harris either.

This bowl in and of itself is meaningless. We are playing dec 28 after all. Now the additionally 15 practices we gained is huge.

Totally agree.

LULZ at this being the most important game in 3 years. More hyperbole. This game is virtually meaningless.

Disagree.

The 2000 Gator Bowl was a very important step for the program, and it felt that way at the time. Not saying that this team is that close, but it can certainly use the confidence boost of a big bowl win. This program hasn't won a meaningful bowl since 2004.

I see your point, but this isn't a big bowl. Had we played and earned a Jan 1 bowl, I would agree with you. Thing is this team doesn't come close to the heart that 99' team had.

Very important game because we did not beat anyone this year. Louisville is not much but it would be our biggest win of the year -- since the sleazy gator decoded to completely dissolve after we beat them. It is big for local recruiting, especially since losers are coming into ACC and will compete even more for local talent. They have little choice but too. Building the fence requires cutting off teams that poach our turf. A win tonight, especially since nobody expects us to, will help build the fence, by hurting Strong and loserville. They should only get kids we don't want. That said, Al has sufficiently lowered my expectations to a point where I will be stunned if we are not destroyed. Nothing has happened to improve the D since we last saw it. Same players, same coaches, same system. The offense could have a good night; that is our only hope.

TIDBIT: In 2009 while I was sitting at my hotel waiting to go to the Champs Sports Bowl, I was watching Temple play UCLA in their bowl game and remember thinking "Wow this team came very prepared to win this game" The coach of that team..... Golden. It seems very ironic now but I think the Canes come to play and Golden throws a few trick plays in the scheme.

We would also be their only victory against a real team, they played nobody and less than nobody, with the exception of UCF and we know the result.

Prediction if we win:

A certain segment of our fanbase will say it's a big deal, while another half will say it's meaningless.

Prediction if we lose:

That same segment who thought a victory would be a big deal will say it doesn't mean anything, while the other segment says it's one of the worst things ever.

I don't know if it's the most important game in 3 years or not but the New Years day game bit is overblown. It's the only game on primetime on Saturday night. As for the heart thing, not only is it intangible and an opinion but it's also crap. '99 lost to ECU & got an epic beatdown against VT.

The Duke game was probably the most important in 3 years and we ****ed that up royally.

This, even though I think it could be important depending on the circumstances of the game. Big blow out either way would be somewhat significant. Big comeback either way may be significant as well.

We destroyed 'cuse in 99. I think you mean #2 VT gave us a beat down. My point is we played with ranked teams and had a mid season fail against ECU. We then ran off 4 wins to end the season. I was at 10 of the games that year. That team was coming together. It was very tangible. I don't get that at all from what we are putting on the field now.

I wanna see some fire tonight!!!! Physical plays all over the field. Big hits, stripping, punishing blockers, tipped balls, tackles for losses

This game is huge for recruiting and for momentum heading into 2014. All we will talk about is this game for the next 6 to 7 months. Anyone who says this game is meaningless has simply given up hope and are preparing for failure so they can say I told you so. Every game is important, and our first bowl game in the last 4 years is just that! So put your big boy pants on and stop it with the excuses already!

This game on its own doesn't mean much. Can this be a point in time or a stepping stone similar to the 2000 gator bowl, maybe.

Maybe in the due course of history this game will have a bigger meaning.

Yeah, VT, my bad. Got the beatdowns that team took confused. You're confusing heart with talent IMO.

Can't let ****water's final collegiate game be a win vs us.

For that fact, this game is not meaningless. **** ****water and **** Loserville.

This game is pretty big for the perception of our program moving forward. We've already gotten the addition practices, true, but Louisville was a media darling this year at times. They were a pre-season top 5 team (I believe) and whether they deserved it or not, it still looks good because of where they had been ranked. It's nationally televised which is nice for perception, if you can get a win. And let's be honest, losing this game would blow. We have a chance to reach 10 games, do it against a bunch of guys from SoFla, and we haven't won a bowl in forever. It's far more than meaningless, in my opinion.

It's the last game of the year. Who the **** wants to sit on a loss for 8 months?

I think it was both. Remember that was a relatively young team learning to win games. Play all 4 quarters.

Not sure if this counts as a meaningful bowl game though. IT is an important game but I agree with the poster that said the Duke and VT games were more important. If we win either of those two games we are at least in the Chick Filet Bowl.

I think as a fan base we are over stating the importance of this game because it has been so long since we have even played in a post season game.

This just doesn't feel like the 2000 Gator Bowl to me.

This too. You could feel that 2000 team turning into a juggernaut as the season wound down and the vibe was trending very positive.

Still doesn't decrease the significance of being in a bowl game. I think this bowl especially for our current sophomores and juniors is going to lay a strong foundation for spring ball and next season.
