The issue with Lane isn't whether he's a good offensive coach(He's a dynamite playcaller and QB coach), the question is can you win big with him, or will there always be a ceiling, due to his personal issues and lack of attention to detail in regards to program management. I don't think it's an accident that he failed at USC, and you can't blame the NCAA for everything that happened. I don't think he's nearly as strong of a recruiter as he could be, and that's because he likely believes that talent is secondary to what he puts on the blackboard. A lot of scheme proficient guys are that way, Lincoln Riley is a classic example of this mindset.

Lane has found his niche, a big fish in a small pond. He can and should be able to win 9-10 games per year at Ole Miss, with the occasional win over Georgia, Alabama, etc. I don't know if Ole Miss will ever get tired of being in the hunt, but not a power.
He has built the most dangerous offense in the SEC, along with a very athletic defense, and has a team this year that can beat anyone in the country and one that nobody wants to face in the playoffs. I would contend he’s done about as well as any coach could do at Ole Miss. That team is full of guys who are going to play on Sunday.

This is a really good point when you look at FAU& FIU. It kind of kills the “South Florida has so much talent“ trope. These two teams should be able to field average competitive teams just with two and three star guys.
And as my guy said, they both have stadiums?! Zero excuses!
Fau typically does around 5 wins...fiu doesn't.

The thing is they don't land or pick the s.fla kids at a big clip they get the tier 5 s.fla kids alot because the tier 3 and 4 guys still end up at places like nc state or a Rutgers

Thought Herman would do better than he has ...he's not playing the portal right and definitely ain't coaching up right. Lane kiffin was humming at fau

Worst fau team over their last 3 staffs

Herman is a straight bull****ter. Glib, smartest guy in the room ******* from Day 1.

Those kind of coaches ALWAYS end up getting exposed once they're in charge and no longer have an overwhelming talent advantage (e.g, OC at Ohio State in a weak-*** Big Ten)

The kids FAU and FIU should be getting rather go to Toledo or Bowling Green and ball out. The MAC is literally full of Florida kids making plays lol.

FAU actually recruits decently for what they have, coaching/development has just been terrible. FIU can only get kids that literally have no other FBS offers and are taking in transfers from St. Thomas and Florida Memorial. I actually think FIU would lose to a few South Florida high schools

It just seems odd to me that FAU isn’t better. They have a nice stadium. Nice campus. Great location. Why would you want to go to Akron or Ball State for that matter? If you can go to FAU?

Seems like these recruits look at FAU as the same as they do on FIU. FAU had decent success but thats a graveyard for coaches. They should be doing better but they're not. We should do a list of coaches on this thread and guess whose the next guy.

I'll go first Dana Holgorsen

Lane Kiffin coached at FAU waiting for the next big opportunity. Schnellenberger also coached there.

I wouldn't go so far as to say its a graveyard.
