Time of Possession (brace yourself, this is ugly)

TOP does not win you or cost you games. Turnovers and poor execution does....
Maybe in the first half of the season it doesn't, but if you're losing that battle week in and week out, you better believe come the last few games of the season your defense will be mentally and physically exhausted from being on the field for such long periods of time.

And yes it is both a problem from the offense and defense with this team

This is a great point that I hadn't thought about: the cumulative effect of losing the top battle game after game. Look at our tackling. I was so impressed with it early in the season. Our guys were tackling machines. Even guys like cornelius and armbrister were dropping guys on the spot. We looked strong. Fast forward to the VT game, we looked weak and tired all game. Tackling was abysmal. VT's guys all looked like earl campbell out there. Our guys on defense are completely worn down, they've been run into the ground. You know what else happens when exhaustion sets in? Mental errors. Anybody see any mental errors on defense saturday night?

With zero context that is correct. Unfortunately games aren't played without reason. Let's look at Oregon, the way they play offense it's going to be tough for them to ever with the top battle. Their is a reason for it though. If u looked at say uf last year they particularly held the hall to the last second of the playclock and ran the ball the majority of the time and relied on holding the ball and playing defense. Those are philosophies. Miami on the other hand has none. We aren't ball control and we aren't up tempo. Our 3rd down % on offense and defense is horrible. This is why top is so out of whack and illustrates the teams struggles. It's like using analytical in baseball. The RBI is meaningless. It just illustrates how often a player comes up with men on base. Predicated on teammates when u really can just look at slugging percentage. A guy that hits for power will drive in more runs. When looking at numbers u need context

Good thread and discussion.

1) TOP being so lopsided has destroyed our defense as the year wears on

2) Its head scratching that we decide to go hurry up with such a feast or famine QB and a mammoth O-line built for a power, clock eating running game

3) 3rd down defense is sooooo pathetic, I dont even want to discuss it because it makes me vomit

I still cant get over the fact that the 100th ranked offense with a ***** up at QB just put 42 points on us. Unreal. And Duke is lubing up our **** as we speak

Wow! Oregon's defense must really be worn out. They have been on the field for 85 more plays than the Canes have, in the same number of games.
