Tim Williams

I am very wary of this kid.

Any top level kid in LA that LSU stays away from is usually a sign that the kid has issues.

Like Ed Reed and Reggie Wayne

IIRC, they weren't real highly recruited guys. Both high 2/3 star type of kids.

Definitely not highly rated guys. Your recollection is correct.

yeah but I highly doubt that an Ed Reed or Wayne would be overlooked in today's recruiting environment. Recruiting is a big business now and its 100x tougher to discover diamonds in the rough.

Plenty of low-rated recruits go on to big success these days. There's nothing fool proof about the ratings these days.

Terrance Williams of Baylor sticks out as a 2 star guy with only 2 offers from Baylor, and Colorado St. All he did was lead the nation with 1764 receiving yards, taking over where Kendall Wright left off.

I posted this in another thread a while ago. Ed Reed and Reggie Wayne were a lifetime ago. Our track record in LA over the last 10 years is spotty at best.

Recruits from Louisiana since 2002

Jolla- horrible
Franklin- JAG
Derron Thomas- JAG
Chaz Washington- never enrolled
Laron Byrd- serviceable
Jacoby Briscoe- ?? not off to a great start.

Not saying Dobard will be a bust because I love his tape and he looks very talented but I disagree with Louisiana being good to us other than Reggie Wayne and Ed Reed, which was 15 years ago.

Last 10 years, dudes from Louisiana have been pretty awful for Miami

Most recruits over all have been horrible for this program for some time. The fact that plenty of guys have under performed for this program only to go on to the league. Tells you that the coaching was good awful. You seen plenty of guys on the squad this year, that in previous years would have fell under the bust label. Turn things around and have solid seasons. I bet had Al and Co been here for their entire time. These guys would be really looked at differently, and would have a better outlook in this years draft.

People put so much stock in so called ratings but we should all be happy as cane fans that we have golden and co. How many kids have they identified early only to see them go on to have their ratings jump and offers come flying in? Collins is just one example...but it's the consistency in finding their "guys" that makes me sleep well at night during this time of the year aka "as the recruit turns"

As for red flags with Williams...I haven't seen anything and knowing that golden has been on him for a while now tells me all I need to know about him as a player and person.

We haven't been exactly targeting the cream of the high school crop in terms of kids from there over the past decade aside from Jolla. I'd take Dobard and Williams without even batting an eye, and those are two positions you'd normally think you wouldn't need to go outside of FL to get prospects.

It was really a different era in Louisiana. We had a very good Louisiana recruiter in Curtis Johnson, and LSU was not dominating the state the way it has been over the last decade. I think things started to change when Nick Saban took over LSU and later we lost C.J. Things turned around entirely. We stopped competing for the top Louisiana kids or even the good kids who were not top kids. I don't think either Reed or Wayne were premier players, just good players. A premier Louisiana player was Akieem Jolla, as I recall. Look what happened to him.

Everyone's been a bust at Miami from 02-now. I won't hold it against one area.

How can you possibly say Jacoby Briscoe is not off to a good start?

He redshirted! Olsen Pierre took the same route and look at him now.

Excellent example from the Artist Formerly Known as Reddic26. The internet and recruiting services were around when Patrick Willis was a 2 star recruit who signed with Old P*ss and went on to become the best LB in football.

You've got to be kidding? Everyone's been a bust since 2002 the year we got screwed by the ref's in the NC game against Ohio State?
You must mean the recruiting classes right?
So guys like Hankerson, Allen Bailey, Meriweather, Eric Winston, Greg Olsen, John Beason, Kevin Everett, Calais Campbell, Kenny Phillips, Orlando Franklin, Matt Bosher, Jason Fox, Colin McCarthey, Brandon Harris, Streeter, Travis Benjamin, Sean Spence etc were all busts?

We've had a lot of 4-5 star talent flame out, but to say that we've been Zero for a Decade is ridiculous.

He was overstating but the ratio of flameouts is high

Derron Thomas was my boy.

Him along with Mcneal and Chambers could have been really good backs here with the proper attention.

I agree w/ the Briscoe part but Pierre did not RS.

according to people in the know, Briscoe has a lot of work and growing up to do before he contributes here. Just going with what I've read

U don't say

A freshman needs to grow up before he contributes

Your insight is very insightful
