Someone w/some insight PLEASE shed some light on this pass rushing/gap control ****?

On first and second down, I'm almost positive that D'onofrio wants guys engaging blocks and then shedding those blocks to make plays in the run game.

The previous regime preached shooting the gap, which lends to the axiom of "stopping the run on the way to the QB". There are pluses and minuses to both. Shooting gaps can be bad because you are voluntarily leaving holes in your run defense, if you don't make the play.

Engaging and shedding is bad if you don't have linemen with good technique and strength. If you do, however, have guys who can engage and shed, it is a very effective scheme that is preferred by Saban and Belicheck.
Check the article in the WEZ from today where he states he wants them eating up blocks and not getting upfield...Says guys are trying to slant or shoot gaps and he doesnt want that

AKA its a 2 gap scheme ala NE Patriots....we need space eaters on the DL
