Tim Reynolds on NCAA

Sounds like Al and Donna jumped the gun on cancelling camp.

The NCAA was probably fully prepared to send the verdict out tomorrow until Al and Donna cranked up the rumor mill with their actions earlier this week.

Rece Davis today stated that the NCAA ought to just drop the case after how it was bungled, unlikely to happen but it was nice to hear someone say it.

When asked about how the current success of the 2014 recruiting class, in spite of the NCAA cloud....Golden said.

"Kid's know we've already paid a severe penalty and the likelihood of them being effected by sanctions is negligible at best"

"it's different now, the student-athletes we've brought in, some are juniors this year, have been denied a bowl game and a chance to play in the conference championship game. That part is behind us, and soon, this cloud of uncertainty they've been operating under will also be gone."

My guess is that UM would rather respond to the NCAA's decision through Donna Shalala's office (or maybe through that of the AD) before Coach Golden and the players get set upon by the media. I would not be surprised if cancelling practice was a precautionary measure against the possibility that word from the NCAA might have come on Tuesday. The action does suggest that UM expects to be notified of the decision very soon.

Clearly they communicated with the NCAA on Dye, and had to be given a heads up that the news was imminent. They also were give assurances by the COI that they would do everything they could to deliver the news before the season. Very surprised if we don't hear today or tomorrow in some form. NCAA may want to release on a slow media day, which would be Friday.
