Lightfoot committed on 7/3/23 on 7/2/23 he was ranked as the 67th best player as a high 4 star in the country according to the composite and had only been listed as a 3 star on the composite when he got his first composite ranking on 4/6/22 as the 250th best player in the country according to composite.

It comes from the same crowd that claims Ed Reed was a two star.... even though the star system didn't exist when Reed was being recruited. Personally, I prefer myths about Sasquatch.

I will throw out another possible scenario.

Do I expect to still finish somewhere in the Top 8 recruiting-wise? Absolutely, without a doubt. Again I really think this season has a lot to do with how the class tallies up: since I expect 9-3 (really 10-2) or better, then that to me means Miami should have closer to a Top 6 class.

But the other scenario (and again it’s just a hypothesis) could be that we spent a lot of money and roster spots on the end of the 2024 cycle + portal guys. 2025 might be even more predicated on results than money, simply because we went all in for Year 3.

- Scott definitely got a bag to flip
- Blount definitely got a bag to flip
- Lyle got a bag to flip
- Carr got a bag to flip

That’s on top of guys like Zaquan, Lightfoot, Trader, etc that were already commanding pretty decent NIL.

- Cam Ward might be the most expensive one-year rental in CFP
- Barrow got a bag for a one-year rental
- Martinez definitely got a bag
- Sam Brown probably got decent money when we were battling against aTm
- Powell got money to leave Washington
- Clark got money to leave NC St
- While I’m not impressed thus far, I’m sure we paid Carpenter some.

PLUS
- Kiko probably got a pay increase to stay another year
- Rivers probably got a pay increase to stay another year

This current roster is certainly top 10 in college football money wise, probably closer to top 5 if we’re being honest. And that’s why there’s so much pressure to win NOW.

i was like you too
but Mario has shown that he may be a corch
but he is Hall of fame level recruiter
so not worried
this cycle i decided to just relax and let the cookie crumble
I learned my lession last year
which was much more depressing than even now

Why would you start your post with this just to go cry like a 🐱 about us having 3 star guys?! Some of y’all are just miserable, miserable people, got ****!! How many 3 stars did we have last year, and what was our class ranking? Let Mario cook.

It's a genius way to recruit in the NIL era. My guess is that NIL is rarely mentioned this time of year for our staff.. all about building real relationships and pushing the program. No need to start putting numbers in place in June. Just come in at the end with a nice offer, plus the benefits of a 6+ month real relationship with a kid and family.

Leads to 3 stars in the summer, and 5 stars on signing day without getting into a bunch of bidding wars all throughout the cycle.
 
I never bet against Mario in recruiting, but that being said y'all are unfairly piling on OP. He makes a valid and good point... AS IT STANDS TODAY our class is not good enough.

But it's only June, there's still a lot of time, and every year we've been here before with Mario he's pulled through by signing day and landed good/great classes. No reason to doubt him.
