Thoughts on this class

Would not work at Miami. Here's the issue. Harris loses the starting QB job and it then becomes a black/white issue. It's happened many times over the years. The right play was being up front with Harris and telling him his natural position is DB. At FSU, they can lie to his face and no one in South Florida is going on a rampage to talk about it...

It is what it is....

I quit reading at "our biggest mistake was not offering Treon Harris @ QB". GTFOH

Give him an honest shot to compete? If it were only that easy. He gets locked in a battle, loses out, then he and his old man go HAM on us for the next two decades.

The key was you saying "honest shot". As long as the battle is won on the field, most players take the loss in stride. When folks are split on who really won or think the other guy one, that's when the talk starts

only thing is kaaya is a mixed race kid. maybe he considers himself black.

So was Robert Marve, and the team and the 305 gang immidiately rallied around Jacory, and Marve was basically pushed out the door.

It's more than just a race thing, its a race AND "local" thing. The kids on the team who know Treon, and are from So Fla will rally around him, which will immidiately create a division and factions on the team. Then you will have the local drama start, with the Harris family and friends, LUKE, and other locals b*tching that Treon is better than this kid, and that he should be the QB, and that Golden isnt giving him a fair shot, etc..etc..etc... it might not even be ICE harris, but one of his kids/brothers who also like to run their mouth.

Treon as a QB here is an absolute nightmare waiting to happen for Golden IMO. Dont forget that Bridgewater still talks about his resentment of Miami fans and the program because of the way they trashed Jacory when he was here and struggled. He said Jacory was like an idol to him when he was coming up and it was very hurtful to hear and see how Jacory was treated when he struggled here. Yet another example of the local QB situation blowing up in our face. Just TOO much baggage IMO.

Still not the same. With Harris being from the 305, emotions would run very high...

I still remember going to the VT game and talking to Mike Bakas and him saying Berlin didn't win it straight out against that black QB (forgot his name)

I agree with you 100 percent now that I think about it.

This trickle down effect on future recruits from Cook, Harris, and Lane not coming to Miami can be avoided if Jimbo take the Texas job. I read a few article today that suggests that contract extension as a non factor with fishers future. Some articles are strongly suggesting that he will be the next coach in Texas in a week or two. This would help our recruiting a lot in the present & future.

No it wouldn't! Not when Charlie Strong takes the job at FSU!

You just ruined a good scenario for me man. Strong going to FSU would be horrible for us.

I haven't heard anything to make it a for sure, I'm just saying who I would hire if I was their AD. The man just beat UF and Miami in back to back bowl games, and has a chance to beat FSU soon because they will play each other every year. He can already recruit South Florida and he is doing it at Lousiville, just imagine what he could do at FSU. Yeah I think they are smart enough to go after him first! It might be an upgrade for them actually!

I agree, Strong to FSU might be worse then Fisher staying at FSU. My hope is that Strong takes the Penn State job. I know it's wishful thing, but that would be great for us on all fronts.

strong is what this program hoped randy shannon would be.

Not QB related, and not even a S. Florida kid, but I saw on Nigel Bethel's twitter last night where he was wearing a UCF shirt watching the Fiesta Bowl last night, and made a comment about:

Nigel Bethel II ‏@_NigelBethel 11h It's crazy how the RB #8 for UCF didn't touch the field at the U but now he balling at UCF

As a lot of folks here would have done, he was corrected by many fans about 2 factors that kept Storm off the field at Miami: weed, and the RBs in front of him (Lamar Miller, Mike James).

Bethel had NO IDEA. If I'm a S. Florida kid, and Miami's affairs are all over the news/web media, I would have guessed he would have known that. Instead, the perception by Bethel (and likely others) was that Storm Johnson wasn't "good enough" at Miami and was allowed to ball out at UCF when he wasn't at Miami. Bethel went on to say something to the effect of "man ya'll football players need to quit smoking weed and hurt your career!".

It blew my mind that Bethel didn't know that. How is the truth not out there well enough to the very kids we're recruiting? Is it a function of them not paying attention? Is it a function of the rumor mill/street agents telling them what they want them to know? Is it a failure of our staff to not delve into these issues with prospective recruits? I'm just not sure.

It's not the staffs place to talk about kids who are no longer on the team and why. It could offend someone because they might say "man, if I make a mistake, Golden will tell anyone who ask." It sucks but this is So Florida it's the Gift and the Curse. We have an abundance of talented players all within a 1 hour drive. But the usual things that come along with talent and success are right there as well. Greed, hubris, selfishness, etc. Kids think that everyone who plays at Miami has a right to see the field and be a baller. I'm glad that everyone corrected NB. because I would take Lamar Miller and Mike James or Storm any day of the week. Storm was a good player but those other 2 were beast.

Its blows my mind as Pete stated the other day that some ppl see the U as a joke. But Jimbo can take every "athlete at QB" in South Florida every year and promise them a "fair shot" and no one ever says anything about it. I would like to think that Treon Will get a fair shake but he probably won't.

And in regard to Devonta Freeman, the more I hear from him or about him the more of Butt hurt jackass he becomes. His beef is with Randy "Radio" Shannon. It was Randy who didn't offer him. NOT THE UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI. as a matter of fact Golden offered him last minute i know it was too late. But enough with his anti Miami tyraid also. I recall be then on TOS that many poster were outraged that he wasn't offered by Randy.

Very telling and very serious lack of understanding which goes along with Pete's post about the community. Truth is always the best, and if a kid like Nigel was uninformed then one can only imagine there is a real perception issue surrounding the U with the local community or vica versa.

It's one of those things that pretty much permeates society today. The power of the truth is often trumped by, "well, I heard from so-and-so that THIS is what really happened" or "I read this guy say this on Twitter, and he's always right"...people subscribe to so many different versions of the truth that the actual truth gets lost somewhere in between. Too much noise pollution muddying the waters.

Storm could not handle being the number 3 back and with Duke coming in the next year. So his dad says. Did not want to compete.

In 2001 I remember JR Mounts out of Key West played pro baseball and came back to give football a shot. Mounts was a freak athlete at 5-11 at 220 with 4.4 speed and a great running back out of high school. JR Mounts quit because he had McGahee and Gore in front of him. Two of the best who both went done because of injuries. Those two had to play behind Clinton Portis and share with DJ Williams and never quit. There is a reason those two went to on to become All Pro NFL players and still playing more than ten years after some horrific injuries. Heart of a champion goes a long long way. Where is JR Mounts these days?

Perception always kicks reality's ***

FSU has traditionally plucked top talent from Miami, Marvin Jones and others in the past have opted for FSU. Its nothing new so the sky is falling because we didn't offer Treon and Cook choose FSU can be limited by winning. Kids can see how well FSU is executing on both sides of the ball. In fact I'm surprised we've done as well as we have with this class given the obvious lack of coaching. I'm serious. We've seen our offense and defense, who here in all honesty believes that either our OC and DC can produce a championship unit? The exodus if it happens will be because we are just a ragedy, ill conceived. poorly executed team with a bunch of really good players who are poorly coached. Unless Al brings in a really good OC and DC, I can guarantee we'll see much the same as this year. Win, show a high level of coaching excellance, play on the big stage, in big time games on national tv with a packed stadium and we'll keep 95% of the best talent home. We'll never offer or keep all the talent home. But don't let recruiting success lead you to believe that's the total answer.

Do you remember the quality coaches we had back then? High caliber recruits are just 50% of the equation to a championship team as we've seen this Bowl season. We need better coaching!!! Our Offense is ill conceived, OL cannot block, QB regressed! Why? Because Coley was hired for his recruiting prowess, not his ability to coordinate an offense. He had absolutely no and I mean no experience designing and offense or even calling plays on game day!

D'Nofrio's only coordinating experience was at Temple! How would you tell if he was good or bad there? We know for a fact he is about as much a DC as I am blonde haired and blued eyed. Until D'Nofrio, Coley and Kehoe are replaced by professionals expect more of the same.

It's the same here with lack of being informed or learning or worse yet remembering their history. Like fswho has plucked the top prospect here in the past, even in our heyday. In fact at our peak, granted recruiting is not covered as much as it is now, but all the recruiting "gurus" consistently had fswho under Bobby Bowden with a much better class than us in our peak. Or the fact that we never ever locked down South Florida, top prospects would go elsewhere, we would get ours, but not everybody, never ever ever, but everyone here seems to think this is something happening now or have never known or forgotten that this has always been the case, ALWAYS. It's lack of being informed nothing more nothing else.

And again, doesn't mean we shouldn't try to snag them all up, but history has shown that the odds of that ever happening is very very very rare.

This

Another perfect example of contradiction as well in Pete's piece, which first off thank you and the work you put in, I do appreciate it, and hope that in some small way if ever I critique it is to hopefully better your efforts, Pete and others go and praise the work this Staff, i.e. Coley in unearthing and finding and getting on Kaaya first and early, give him kudos for his eye on this one, but then criticize him and basically call it a mistake offering Rosier and not Treon at QB. Which one is it? Can't have it both ways when it comes to recruiting a prospect at this point and time, after the players have played then by all means if it was then it was. But if we are to praise him for what appears to be a find in HBK, then in the same class you shouldn't call out the same guy you are praising for finding one and then saying making a mistake on his other find.

We have the 2nd most ESPN300 kids behind Bama with 14. Just under half of our commits are in the ESPN300

Crudup was terrible.

He and Kenny Kelly made Frank Costa look like Dan Marino.
