Thomas USC Visit

Isn't he taking the trip because his mother already paid for "her" plane ticket?? I think he was planning on going to see it there, decided there's no way he is going there and wanted to cancel, but realized they have already paid for the tix. It's a free trip for him and his mother to LA, they will be given top treatment in LA. He's able to give his mom an A-List trip to LA for the cost of a plane ticket, who wouldn't want to give their mom that. Going rate from Miami to LA roundtrip is about $700, I'm sure that's not chump change for his family, even if it was on a Visa Gift Card from USC.

Bad decision by him

It's strange that we can get everyone to visit except him.

I would agree with you, except I've developed a silver lining out of all this USC visit talk. I've developed 3 lines of thinking based on the options 6 has

1) This is a terrible decision for a guy who isn't considering USC at all, to just be taking paid vacations when he is still evaluating where he wants to go. This isn't the time to be "taking trips". If you aren't sure about where you want to go, then you need to get on the campuses of the teams you are seriously considering first and foremost.

2) He is honestly considering USC and wants to see what USC has to offer him. If this is the case, it makes more than enough sense that he would trip to Cali with mom to see if she was down with him being out there for 4 years.

3) His decision has already been made. If his decision has already been made, then vacations become a viable option. None of the visits upcoming will affect his decision on where he's going. The two major players here have been Miami and FSU the whole way and he has been to both campuses multiple times. It's very possible that he has already come to a decision.

1) Well thought out post. You seem to be evolving as a poster. :p

2) My gut is telling me he's gonna ink with FSU. The USC trip is his way of covering his tracks til NLOI day. If he does not go to USC he would be expected to go to UM this weekend. THAT would be a tough place to be if you've already decided to go to FSU. Food for thought.

Mom's ticket is included in the "official" visit. You can bring a parent along on the school's dime.

Seems legit. Good theory bro. rep

During an official visit the college can pay for transportation to and from the college for the prospect, lodging and three meals per day for both the prospect and the parent or guardian, as well as reasonable entertainment expenses including three tickets to a home sports event.

Seems like parents do not get the plane tickets paid for anymore.

Hopefully Thomas' mom can't make the trip to Tally because of the length of the drive. Plane tickets there are insanely expensive.

Good post, I think it definitely has to be one of those scenarios, and those that are okay with how this has transpired are undoubtedly believe #3 to be accurate.

But, my issue is, even if #3 is accurate and he already knows he is going to be a cane (best case scenario), it still sends a bad message that South Florida recruits don't need to take an OV to Miami because they are close and can visit any time. A lot of positive momentum and recruiting always comes from OV's and taking that weapon away from our coaches is harmful, even if 6 is on board.

Thomas is the most visible recruit in South Florida for this cycle and how he goes about it likely sets precedent and influences others. We need a real OV from him. I think at this point he is def going through with the USC visit. It is a rare opportunity for an inner city kid from Miami to get an all expenses paid trip to the biggest city on the opposite end of the country. No problem with him taking advantage of it. But, there is absolutely no need for him to take that UGA visit last. Everyone knows he isn't going there and it will hardly be a different experience from his Bama and FSU trips. Miami needs to get an OV from him that weekend in addition to him coming for an unofficial for the Duke game.

I believe it has been changed, only the student-athlete's "travel" expenses are covered. Once there, the parents "entertainment" expenses are covered tho

Just an FYI....FSU's Coley is in Miami making the rounds. Supposed to be at BTW, Columbus, Homestead today.

When Matt Thomas throws the U up on National Signing Day, that will be the end of Coley's presence in BTW. If we want a kid at BTW, they might as well back off from here on out.

Pete....with all due respect....why would he tell you he is going to cancel last minute?

So he can spend the next 48 hours dodging calls from Tee Martin.

He will cancel on USC last minute and end up on Miami's campus. Almost positive this will happen.

Well he's leaving tomorrow morning so if he was gonna cancel I would think that decision would have been by now. Not out of the question, but not likely.

It'd be funny . . . Didn't this happen to GT last year too?

Can't lie, I'm a little nervous.

But then I remember we have Al Golden and they have Jimbob.

Don't think that's accurate

True. The parents have to pay their way there. Once on campus the school can put the parents up and provide food and entertainment. That is why a lot of times you'll read articles about kids bringing their family or someone, as it is a big deal. That is because on most of the trips the kids from lesser financial situations are on their own.

Weekend journey to LA may be something mom has been banking on and Thomas doesn't want to disappoint. Can't guarantee he ends up a Cane, but no way he signs with SC. Just a little bit of research and you find a nut-ball, sleazy coach who is one ***** up away from being shown the door, coaching changes on the defensive side, a team in disarray and embarrassed by GT, a program heading in the wrong direction and, yeah, a cross-country flight from home. Not happening.
