This year's bowl reminds me of 99 Gator Bowl

That 99 team was more talented than our 13' team and Lousiville is much better than that GT team.

Following 1999 season which had ups & downs

We faced a dynamic QB in Joe Hamilton & a Ga Tech team that played a weak schedule

I remember how important that bowl game was to me, how i wanted so badly to beat a quality team & not just big east cupcakes

We won & that offseason was so great. FSU won the national title & i didnt care cuz i knew we were a bit behind them but were young & had talent

If we beat Louisville i will feel so, so much better. But not a 45-42 win, i want to see actual defensive improvement. I want a 28-17 victory or something like that

Just feels like December 1999 in so many ways (even though that game was played on jan 1)

Thoughts?

SIAP I didn't bother reading anything besides this first post.

How in the world could it remind you of 99? In 99 we hung in with FSU and gave them all they wanted and more.

FSU won the MNC that season.

We were one play away from beating a highly ranked and talented PSU squad.

We choked vs ECU. No excuse, one of Butch's most embarrassing defeats.

As a team the 99 squad got better (a lot better) as the season progressed. We were smashing teams towards the middle and end of that season.

This years team (or any other Al Golden coached team) never get's better as the season progresses. They wilt. FACT.

Nah. Golden's tenure is just like Radio's IMHO. The team get's worse and worse and has no identity.

If Al doesn't fix this soon he (hopefully) will be gone from UM. I like Al but he's a stubborn mule and his system on defense is garbage.

This is year 3 not year 1. He hasn't shown me much of anything. JMO

I think we may be one more year away from being that 99 team..and a lot of good things have to go our way...like

a coordinator change or two

The only teams we smashed were the last 3 we played, 1-10 Rutgers (55-0), 7-5 Syracuse (45-13) and 2-9 Temple (55-0). In the middle of the year we struggled in the amazing comeback at BC, down 28-0 to win 31-28 and then the next week down 13-0 and 20-7 at home to 4-8 West Virginia before winning 28-20. We went on to lose to Va Tech 43-10 before winning the last 3 and beating GT.

Theres parrallels

U just dont see them

If we beat Louisville you will be impressed

Joe Hamilton was just as good but just wasnt a good pro

That '99 GT team underachieved. Yes they played FSU close, but they were 8-4. Everyone was on their jock because they went 11-1 in '98, beating Notre Dame in the Gator Bowl and finishing #9 in the AP Poll. In '99 they lost to FSU, UVA (7-5), Wake Forest (7-5) and Miami in the bowl. They had absolutely no defense, giving up 30 points per game. Their only hope was outscoring teams, which they usually did (they averaged 38 ppg)

Kenny Kelly was the weak link on that team.....Dorsey brought that team together as a leader..something we need now...
