this would never happen, but, could you imagine a staff...

Fun post IMHO cool on the op's part! Don't hate( I think one or two of those guys finding their way to position coaches would be amazing for the program. Go Canes

I hate threads like this, or about possible DCs/OCs and people always through out the "All Time" UM greats.........

Sorry to burst yalls bubbles but the best coaches in the leagues werent all stars, usually the all stars dont make good coaches because they had the "It" factor and its hard for them to teach other people who werent born with "it"

i think what GOV is trying to say is, in some cases with all time NFL greats, the cheese stands alone.

Some one rattle off the list of great NFL players who became great NFL or college coaches in the last 20 years?

Massive pay cuts and working more hours is usually something people try to avoid.

the sports world is replete with star former players who failed miserably at coaching. just because you were a great player does not mean you would be a great coach.

Asking a bunch of millionaires to be college position coaches that work insane hours, live at the football offices, travel all offseason for recruiting and have to constantly deal with recruiting on top of managing 20 year olds. Sounds like a disaster.

Most NFL greats don't have the coaching gene in them or the hunger to continue such a strong connection to football that they want to go through the grind of being a college position coach.

There are definitely some that may fit the mold and not mind the crazy hours and grind of it (maybe ed reed), but the majority of those guys likely want nothing to do with that.

I think it's good to maybe have a one or two, but not a whole staff like that.

For starters, maybe it's wishful thinking on my part, but I don't think Golden is going anywhere for a while. And if any of those guys were going to be Head Coach, it would eventually be Dorsey IMO.

I do think Ray Lewis could be a great coach though. Watch the videos of him talking to high school kids in his camp or whatever. He seems to me like he'd make a good teacher.

The most important factor is are they going to put in the work it takes just to get to The U as an assistant? Dorsey is coaching HS somewhere right now I think. Barrow coached at Homestead IIRC. You got to cut your teeth somewhere else first.

I do really hope Dorsey makes his way back sometime soon. I think he will eventually.

not at u specifically ghost,

Then don't post. why does everyone get so butt hurt when someone starts a CLEAR hypothetical thread? If you're just going to say how dumb of a post it is, what's the point? At least let the members on here who enjoy threads like these to talk about them without sifting through half of the posters who wine about how dumb this is.

I think it's definitely worth speaking about, even if it is clearly just for S***s and giggles, as obviously put in the starting post. Can't see many of our past players to really coach the game, but for recruiting purposes and what not, it would be very cool to see a bunch of the older, elite, ex-NFL stars form some kind of recruiting committee or something like this. They all seem to have such an intense passion for the U, that they would definitely be interested in helping out their alma mater in whatever way they can, especially now that there is some future direction and promise for our program.

Although, I do believe some of the ex-players would be an asset on the coaching staff. Obviously, Ray Lewis would not be our defensive coordinator, but some bulls*** title to have him on our defensive staff I think would help in a multitude of ways throughout the entire program.

Don't mind Dandy he's a negative human being. If he keeps it up I'm not leaving any cookies on his plate.

Plenty of these dudes don't have a pot to **** in our a window to throw it out of after their playing days are up.

Plain and simple, not everyone is cut out to teach others, like not everyone is cut out to be an elite athlete.
