ON PAPER, the offense has everything. Now obviously everything has to come together and guys have to play up to their potential, but we have ridiculous versatility.

QB: Stephen Morris is a Senior with a lot of experience and an NFL arm. He's a film room junkie who's worked really hard on his mechanics. He needs to be more consistent, but when things are clicking, he can put up monster numbers; he had games of 369, 413, 436, and 566 yards passing.

RB: Duke is a phenom. As amazing as he was last year (he had NINE plays of 50+ yards as a true freshman), he can be better. He admittedly hit the rookie wall last year, and had some uncharacteristic drops. He's added weight, which should allow his touches to go up. I think he's going to make an even bigger impact in the passing game this year. Behind him we have Crawford and Clements, who both have nice burst. We also have two big backs in Edwards and Dillard who can run north-south. And then there's Hagens who's a bruiser at FB when we're in pro sets.

WR: We have a nice complement of guys here. Dorsett is the burner who can stretch a defense, Scott and Hurns are the bigger possession guys, Waters and Lewis are the ankle-breakers who can work the slot, and then there's Stacy Coley who has the tools to be the total package. I think it's going to be hard to keep him off the field.

TE: We have three big guys here who can all play. Cleveland played well as a true freshman, then disappeared, but he seems to be working his way back into the rotation. Warlord put up all-conference type numbers at TE, but got snubbed in favor of O'Leary on the pre-season ACC honors list. And there's Beau Sandland, who looks like an absolute monster. His JUCO film looks like an action movie trailer. He's just tossing guys around. I'm eager to see how Coach Coley utilizes this group.

OL: Unless something goes horribly wrong, this should be a top five unit in the country. They have experience (93 starts), size, depth, and production (4.7 ypc and only allowed 18 sacks with 447 pass attempts). There's also a lot of pro potential here (Flowers, Henderson, and Linder will be in the NFL for sure).

Now again, this is all on paper. They still have to go out there and produce, but you can't ask for much more flexibility than that. Senior QB, Heisman candidate in the backfiled, a combo of big and speedy WRs, big TEs with mobility, and a talented and experienced OL.

Aside from injury (which can derail any team), the question marks are:

1. Morris's inconsistency
2. Reliable backup RB
3. No alpha dog at WR
4. TE blocking ability matching receiving prowess
5. OL not opening running lanes against strong defenses
6. Coley's relative inexperience as a playcaller

That said, I'm not terribly worried about any of those things. We averaged 31 ppg last year, and I think we EASILY top that this year.

If you have an OL and a QB, you can have a great college offense even if you lack at the skill positions. We see it constantly.

We are loaded at skill positions. The TEs are talented and the WR group not only is deep, but its extremely versatile which is even more important. Guys like Malc are deadly at finding spots and you have burners like Dorsett, and big guys like Carter and Scott. Then mix in a guys like Waters and Coley that can do it all and you've got it all.

Then there's that Duke Johnson fella.

Another question mark is whether our TEs are consistent in catching the ball. Cleveland was straight doo doo last year, and Walford extremely inconsistent. Lots of stalled drives because of easy catches turning into drops. This is why I'm most excited about Sandland, appears to have great hands. I don't need YAC when the ball ain't caught in the first place.

not only do we have all the tools to make this offense ELITE, all of said players in this post have proven themselves on the field. The only unproven commodity in this offense is the playcallling (self explanatory). IMO (barring injury of course) the 2 deciding factors in this offense taking the next step, filling it's potential & becoming elite are:

3rd down & red zone conversion %
LIMIT TURNOVERS

Nice review. We hit the time machine button and this board turned into a football board. Pumped for the season.

Outside of health, which we cannot control, #1 and #6 are my biggest concerns. If those two just meet expectations as opposed to exceed them, we're going to have a fun ride.

(FWIW, in my dream this morning, we put up 16 points on Alabama in the first half, were driving down the field off a big catch by Waters, and then the phone rang and woke me up. Don't know what that means, but my subconscious seems to think we can score with anyone this year.)

To me, the biggest question mark is the O-Line. We've seen them have their way against equal and lesser opponents, however when facing a talented front 7 they have not generated a consistent push in the run game. We ran the ball for 40 yards against KSU, 84 against ND, and 29 against FSU. If we expect to beat teams like UF and FSU, who have talented front 7's, the O line has to take the next step. They've been GREAT in pass protection, it's time they start blowing good teams off the ball. Otherwise, we'll be sitting here 6 months from now wondering why we only won 8 games with such a talented roster.

One of the telling things I took from media day on Friday was Coley's interview. He mentioned how he has taken the averages of the top 3 teams in every offensive category from last year, and is showing them and using them as a target for this year to shoot for. He was even asked why not the top 10 teams, but instead he chose only the top 3 teams. **** I would be ecstatic if we averaged in the top 10 in every offensive category, that alone is powerful enough. But that, for me, was insightful as to what he and the staff believes this group is capable of.

Going to be a fun ride this year

I had one about Clemson the other day. Must have been the ACCCG.

Yall boys setting yerslef up mane.

BCS or bust tho

8 or 9 f'in years, man. 8 or 9 f'in years of underperformance and disappointment. That's not peanuts.

If we can't get excited right now, 20 days before kickoff, seeing consistent signs of a positive uptick, and a campus full of recruits...

...then this whole investment of being a fan seems completely pointless to me.

My biggest concern about the offense is coach Coley. Im interested to see if he can manage this team.

One of my big criticisms of offensive coordinators in general is that they tend to respond to success with cuteness. If we run a play with success will he go back to it or will he get cute and try to use the momentum on some gimmicky plays. I really dont have any knowledge of the guy but he has big shoes to fill. Jedd Fisch was one of the better OC's we've had here and certainly the best in the past decade.

No one else knows what Coley will do either. Right now that is an edge. Swamp scum and study Wide Right film and it mean nothing, or last years' Cane tape and same result. Coley is the X factor early in the year.
