this is the single most important game of Golden's career

The single most important game of Golden's UM career to date was last year and it was our sixth win. IMHO.

first 3 game win streak in years tells you all you need to know about the state of the program.

Agreed. A win in this game would be huge on so many levels. A loss would be devastating IMO. I just hope we don't come out flat. I've gotten so tired of that act the last 5 seasons

Season? No.

Career? No.

:ohlord:

Little bit of hyperbole going on here. In fact, as it has already been noted in this thread, cross divisional games are less important than inter-divisional games because of the tiebreakers involved.

Well we haven't played UNC, Virginia or Virginia Tech this season. So to this date, I would say this is the most important game of his career.

NC State is not even in the coastal. Sure it's a big game, but it pales in comparison to the VT game in a few weeks.

This. The road to the ACCCG always goes through VT (hopefully we can change that)

Except those times when we have beaten VT, and then went down the road to nowhere. VT could have lost to us every year for the last what, 7 years, and we still wouldn't have gone to any ACC CG, I don't think.

Gotta start beating middle to lower tier ACC teams. No more losses to NCSU, Maryland, Virginia, et al

This game is huge, and if we get it done..next weeks is mamoth. Going against a nationally recognized powerhouse pretty much on the road most likely at night on national TV.

What part of the OP's statement "so far" do some of you not understand?

This

Even so; GT was bigger. Had we lost to GT, our chances to get to the ACCCG would have taken a huge hit. If we lose to NC State, it will hurt our psyche but it wont be determinative on our shot at the ACCCG (the VT game will). Outside of FSU (which impacts recruiting), games against GT and VT will always be more important than any matchup against an Atlantic Division School.

Seriously??? Every conf game counts towards overall conf record. We need this win to have the upper ha d on them

Huh? You know we are not competing against NC State for a spot in the ACCCG. If we beat VT and VT subsequently loses to either FSU or Clemson, then it will take an all out collapse for Miami not to get into the ACCCG. Would mean we have to lose 3 conference games. Like I said, all conference games are important, but our season is riding on the VT game.

Every ACC game is important and counts towards either winning, or losing, your conference. You are putting our fate in the hands of someone else by hoping VT not only loses to us, but FSU (or/and someone else) as well.

When is the last time we played a game where ESPN Gameday was there? We win the only reason they wouldn't be in Chicago is if they decide they don't want to promote an NBC game.

The entire focus should be on beating NCS. The biggest game of the year is the one you are about to play. The others will become important when their time comes. It's corny but rock solid truth.

This. This game is far from the most important of this season (e.g. VA Tech, ND, FSU). And i still think everyone discussing ACC championship w/ two eke out wins vs. middling ACC opponents is delusional. Our DL is still brutally bad, we lost our best player on defense for who knows how long, and we are relying on freshmen and sophomores all over the field.

In the big picture every game is a big game as far as I am concerned regardless of result. It is time to see this team begin an upward trajectory that is consistent and meaningful. On a micro-level, each game has it's own storylines that represent and add to the "importance" factor.
