This 2014 Class is full of savage beast!!!!

you must be talking about the fsu class that took lane cook and rudolph out of our backyard...

Why does everyone think that every single kid that plays in South Florida wants to go to Miami? Some kids want immediate playing time, some kids want to play for the team that just won a National title, some kids just follow the biggest payday.

The whole idea of "putting a fence around the State of Miami" is so ridiculous in 2014.

Some of the idiots on this board... Do you get paid by Golden also?

Yes, I'm clearly an idiot for not believing that because a kid plays high school football in South Florida he's automatically a Miami lock and it's only the fault of the coaching staff that he doesn't enroll at the University.

DEM DA RULZ RIGHT?

Every major football university protects it's backyard or at least makes every effort to do so, right? In the most fertile 100-mile stretch in the college recruiting world, how is it ridiculous that we apply maximum effort to do the same?

We do, and we do very well in our "backyard". It's downright stupid to think we get everyone. S. Florida kids don't have a lot of loyalty, especially to a small private school that hasn't won in a decade, when all they hear from the media and their own coaches is "SEC" and "FSU".

The people who think any coach (including the almighty Nick Saban) can put a fence around South Florida, can't be from South Florida.

Not possible to grab them all, but the miss rate (particularly in regard to game-changers) has been a little alarming over the past couple of years and at certain positions.

I don't think anyone thinks the previous class is subpar, but disappointment sets in when you imagine what could have been.

The last class was good, but not elite. If you're going to win with subpar coaches (like Golden), elite classes are a necessity, not a luxury, end of story.

comparing south florida to other traditional powers is ridiculous. UM has been on the scene since around '82? school's like psu and uga and auburn and Alabama and texas and Oklahoma and Nebraska and osu and michigan etc are the big schools in their respective states. people grew up there and have generations of family members as fans. UM has been on the scene for 30 years.
kids in those states grow up with parents and grandparents and great grandparents as fans.
south florida is a transient community. lots of people from somewhere else, the northeast, etc.
there are more alumni from uf and fsu in south florida than UM.
yes, in the urban area and black areas and communities, UM is the school most grew up rooting for. the hometown team.

For as much as we missed, this class is our best in a very, very long time. 2015 looks to be shaping into an even better class. There are a lot of facts pointing towards a connection between improved recruiting and time passed since the cloud being lifted. Time will either confirm or disprove that factual connection. Sad thing is, many of these incoming freshman wont make a meaningful impact until their sophomore/RSfreshman years, so we might not see the benefits for some time, if ever.

Ohio State loses top talent in Ohio to the U. of Michigan and Michigan State EVERY year!

Terrell Pryor and Eddie George are both from Penn State territory.

How did Miami land Brad Kaaya, or Standish Dobard, or Kiy Hester?

Some kids actually WANT to leave home for college. Being a star athlete just makes that decision making process more public.

This class has the potential to be the best ever when it's all said and done..

Let's just hope it becomes the best in like 14 years!! I love this class and think it will help us win a few more games because of the intensity the young men will bring to the training situation!!!

Agreed, but most on here are blinded (and to a point, understandably so) by our failure to perform on the field and our perceived whiff at DT.

It's not "perceived" when you consider -- which you have to for context -- the last three years of DT recruiting. Losing Valentine on the heels of the misses of the last few years is undoubtedly a whiff.

Yes there were a few misses but from top to bottom this is the best class Miami has had since the early 2000's. This class is loaded with savages and the best part is most of them will get a chance to redshirt and eased into the program, a luxury that we haven't had in several years.

Lets hope the coaches can help them reach their potential. I dont care who we bring in God given talent wont be enough for the Canes to succeed.

Why would I have to consider the last three years when the subject is the 2014 class? We signed several DTs this year. We don't know whether or not they will pan out -- same goes for Valentine.

Typical Spring optimism. The class looks decent on paper, but we'll see if we've got paper champions or tigers is the years to come. Best case scenario for them all would be getting a real coach.

I'm not happy we missed on a lot of DT's over the previous 2 classes, but I'm also know the NCAA Death Penalty was looming, other schools were performing better, having better facilities, filling their stadiums, on prime time TV and players going high in the draft. Outside of just being a die hard Cane why would they come? After moderate success on the field, being done with nevingate, vastly improved facilities and more TV time, we get our best recruiting class in 4 years and still battled for some top talent that did get away. As an investor that shows me things are improving and I can expect them to only get better. Yea we'll always lose some top talent, but I'm confident we'll be losing less talent and games.

When you watch tape on our class, one thing is plainly obvious: everyone is a playmaker.

Even an unheralded guy like Linder is pan caking guys at the line and then pancaking someone else 15-20 yards downfield. Gayot is crushing guys. Langham and Njoku are out there high pointing Hail Mary's.
Wyche, Heurteleu, Moten and Jenkins are not 300lb + fatties out ther leaning on guys weighing 200lbs. These guys are big, strong and have a nose for the ball. At the very minimum none of those guys are going to be driven 10 yards back into a linebacker, which is already a major improvement over what we had last year.
Young has the body of a 49'er linebacker at 17 years old and is only going to get bigger, stronger and faster.

I'm not even going to mention the studs, their talent is more than obvious.

I will say that I love watching Kaaya in the pocket, going through progressions, instead of just eyeballing one wr the whole time.

Everyone of these guys looks like they are going to be a player.
First time we've been able to say that in a decade.

That's all you can ask for.

Stop going back in forth with this clown.. Seriously.. he wants us to literally build a fence..

UM has never, ever had a stranglehold on South FL talent. Even when we were dominating college football. It's an exaggeration to say we ever did.

Having said that, we are still missing out on 2 or 3 studs a year that we'd nab if he we won 10 or 11 games. That's inarguable. Have to reach that next tier to get those final 2 or 3 playmakers a year.

Uh.. it's his first class without the NCAA trying to rip our panties off in a rape like fashion...
