The Work 7-26

Have not been this excited about recruiting since Butch Davis, if we have a good season, we close very strong and dominate next class.

This perspective seems to be the consensus, but it's not necessarily factual.

UM's coaching staff has been upgraded, but besides the excitement and camp, the actual tangible recruiting class isn't better than 2016.

Which thinking about it seems incredible. 2015 was god awful as a total class. Golden, as bad as he was and as ugly as the situation got, managed to put together a great class in 2016 with half of them being blue chippers.

Salute to Richt for getting Richards and McCloud back, but this class isn't better, at least by composite average rating. It is far from over but the class cannot be top 5-10 if only for the fact that it would require a ton of turnover from the currently 12 players committed rated three stars or less.

This is not to say they can't recruit or Golden was great. Just context as of July 2016.

We need smith

Bama can't have jeudy and smith we need an elite game changer on defense and offense

Just remember Devonta Smith committed to Richt once. Real religious kid and after paradise camp it could have cleared up that recruiting picture for him. Nice depth chart for him and it's a **** of a lot nicer place tha Tuscaloosa!

Richt is also a proven winner.

He was big-time as the OC at FSU and very solid as the HC at Georgia....

I expect more of the same as does almost all of the fan base....

Enjoy the south Florida players currently on your roster, Saban, because the well is drying up....

Good **** Pete! Hopefully it's true that Smith is high on Miami, and only has Alabama in the lead because Saban is a proven winner. if we win 10+ with one being a bowl win and have an ACC Championship birth he may take his talents to Coral Gables!

Georgia didn't spend like Bama, auburn or lsu and he still won ten yearly!!! I like our chances with him!!! We have some huge built in benefits none of their money can tough with the right coach

Could you please show us what each school spent.

if jennings was not a legacy, would fsu even be recruiting him? seems like a lock to flip.

I agree completely. Winning certainly helps, but a good salesman can recruit even after a so-so season.

Not sure if serious.

That 2016 class was falling apart towards the end. Golden was pushing to get as many guys "committed" as he could as early as he could to manufacture as much momentum as he could and honestly to gain leverage for keeping his own job, should there have been a close decision at the end of the year. But make no mistake that house of cards was crumbling. There's no way of telling what that class would've ended like if somehow Golden had not been fired, as inconceivable as that thought is now. Make no mistake though, if not for Richt Sam Bruce is a Buckeye. If not for Richt, A. Richards is poised to be the next T. Rudolph, former Cane commit lighting it up somewhere else. If not for Richt, N. Perry is likely a Vol commit right now. You already mentioned the early enrollee LBs. If not for Richt, I don't think we're in recruiting battles for Jeudy, Smith, Leatherwood, and the list goes on. It's difficult to quantify the difference Richt has been able to make in the 8 months since he's been hired, but I haven't seen a decision he's made yet that hasn't made this program better. Week 1 can't come soon enough.

Sure enough Golden was fired shortly after.

Everybody was getting off the train after that 58-0 beatdown. I was in the stands and before i left at halftime i looked at the guys next to me and said well at least we witnessed history, this will be Al's last game. See you next season fellows. Only game i've ever left early.

Predictably, this became a defense of Richt. I'm not saying he did anything wrong or isn't an upgrade. I'm saying that the perspective that there is a recruiting revolution happening before us is not tangible.

Like anywhere else, and like people parrot here daily, they will have to win to ultimately get back to having top 5 classes regularly.

Richt is in it with some top prospects, and there is positive press to be attained from it, but the team also has 12 commits rated three stars or less. This isn't an uptick from 2016 on that front.
