The Work 4-6

The fact the job was being handed to Williams already is why were never going to be anything under Golden imo. If hes that good why wasnt he in last year

When was Williams handed the job? Being better than Kevin Olsen doesn't mean your good and has no bearing on why he wasn't in last year. It means you're better than an unproven and at least last year immature freshman.

Regarding Ryan Williams, the job was his. The only way Olsen was going to start prior to the injury was if Williams had a flat out terrible spring/fall and Olsen had been close to perfect during that same period.

Thats what Pete said. What has Williams done that there was a fake QB competition???

He's a senior and hes been ok so its his???

Is that why Carter never got on the field last year despite Highsmith and Rodgers being awful

I'm pretty sure Carter admitted to not knowing the playbook, going through the motions and hoping practice would just end. Then when he locked it up, he started having more success and improved from pre-bowl game to bowl game to now.

lulz at the all is lost hyperbole that our program and fan base can only be excited by the new savior --- our incoming freshman quarterback

Duke and Coley are pretty **** exciting.

This is Olsen's job to win and hopefully he realizes with the weapons at his disposal he doesn't have to win the game by himself, he just has to distribute the ball.

nothing will make me excited about CANES football until this staff is GONE. the defense is putrid

For all those seniors start over underclassmen, where was Kelvin Cain last year after the Florida game? some of the kids don't get it as quickly as some of would like. They are trying to adjust to college and not to high school.

No mention of Moore or King. Not encouraging.

In the last 3 years, Chickillo has played a lot of DT and he has been terrible. Moving him inside permanently would be a big mistake. He was so ineffective last year that at the end of the season he was no longer part of the special pass rush package.

The Williams injury is horrible for the organization. Whether you thought Olsen / Kaaya should be a starter, not having a seasoned option will hurt the team this year...

All you guys who were praising the freshmen QBs on this team better not ***** about them when we live and die with their performance.

The question is where does thos miami secondary stack up to opposing projected acc wr corps and other db corps…DL is still key

Very conservative write up pete...I hope all of you can make the spring game Sat..see for YOURSELVES the talent out there and some cases lack of...

clearly the young guys are exciting to watch...

as for Olsen/Kaaya...crap..

be thankful Whipple and Highsmith are not your choices..

Kaaya winning the job would not make me excited at all. If a kid comes into a program and gets the starting nod after being there for 3 months, that is very scary.
Me neither. I keep seeing people state that Olsen's start here at Miami is similar other great QB's that redshirted. If anything his career has started out more like Robert Marve than anyone else's. We'll see...

Manziel got arrested. Winston may have raped someone. All during their redshirt year. Then you have Marve. You can't make a connection either way.

Manziel and Winston also put the work in during practice and looked like all-stars from the get-go. Olsen has been less than stellar on the field so far, and has had off-the field issues too.

Olsen started off slow at the Elite 11 also, but came on strong to finish in top 11. I am prepared to wait until we see the field play. If he doesn't shine, then we should give Kaaya a shot. Under Randy, we only had one QB, now under Golden, he only uses one QB.

Wait what? Moore was the only DT that earned the black jersey according to our coaches, right? Who gives a **** if Pete mentions him?

Olson or Kaaya, there is not reason to not have a great offense next year. Both look like very solid recruits. We have an abundance of weapons. Stacy and Duke are at the top of their positions. Plenty of speed and talent at WR to take advantage of the fact that nobody could cover Coley last year. Duke is Duke and Joe will is a slightly slower version of Duke as freshman--everyone remember that? The OC needs to have his crap together and realize there is more to OC than some recruiting. Stacy and Dorset will open the middle intermediate lanes up. If we just use the TEs they way we use to, the lbs will not be able to load the line for Duke.

We know of defensive coaching is questionable at best; this year will tell us if OC needs to go too. We have great talent on O. It just needs to be used well. Olsen is coach's kid and should be capable; Kaaya seems driven and also should be good. No reason, except coaching for us not to have a great offense. We will know a lot when we see each QB with the enemy in his face. Morris was fine unmolested but folded under pressure. Can either handle the rush or do we gets those deer eyes in headlights? That is what we need to see.

I still think even with a Freshman or R-Freshman QB, we should win the Coastal. Is that wrong? Maybe. I look at our division and see dog ****. Absolute dog ****. I wouldn't take any QB on another team on our side and choose him over either Olsen or Kaaya. We have good backs. Our OL is better than everyone's on our side. Our WR are sick and we have three TE weapons. Our offense even with a Freshman should be potent enough to put up points. I'm more concerned about how awful our defense is against these awful teams. That's still the key IMO. We aren't winning the NC this year anyway, so let's get Olsen or Kaaya ready to roll for our *possible* contending years coming up. There are still no excuses not to win this **** division next year.

Quarterback

**Regarding Ryan Williams, the job was his. The only way Olsen was going to start prior to the injury was if Williams had a flat out terrible spring/fall and Olsen had been close to perfect during that same period.

**Up to now, Williams had been steady as projected. He was playing at about the level most expected of him, maybe a little above that. Olsen has shown flashes of huge improvements, making some exciting throws at times, but there continues to be a lot of doubt about whether or not he can limit the on-field mistakes and retain control of the offense (sustaining long drives, audibles, check-downs, basic leadership ability, etc.).

**Olsen should be considered the favorite for the job now, but people I have spoken to indicate that in no way does he have the spot locked up. Brad Kaaya and Malik Rosier will be given legitimate opportunities to compete. They both have their hands on the playbook already. Obviously Olsen will have a year and a half of practice experience on both of them, but he has not done enough yet to prove that it is his job.

**This could turn out to be a make-or-break moment in Al Golden’s coaching career. Williams would have been a solid quarterback this year that probably would have done some good things and beaten the teams he was supposed to. He wouldn’t have lost games by himself. The new era is upon us much quicker than anticipated. The upside with Olsen or Kaaya is much higher than what it was with Williams, especially if one of them gets major game experience this year. We will see if Golden has the guts to go with a true freshman starter if he truly deserves it. At this point, a move like that seems like the only thing that could re-excite the fan base, not that Golden will be factoring in the fans’ opinion into his decision.

Not sure if it was pointed out yet, but Olsen didn't report until summer session II, I believe, so it will actually be a little under a year, not a year and a half. Still an advantage for Olsen, but people seem to forget this is only his second semester. Ideally, he would have come in more focused, preparing for the future, but he seems to be getting there now. I'm not going to hold immaturity against a kid in his first semester in college, especially when he came into a situation where, barring injury, he wasn't going to get higher than 3rd on the depth chart. I do expect Kaaya to come in more focused, but, in large part, that will be due to having a chance to compete for the starting job.

I know everybody is excited about the Safety position but I think it's mainly because you people are in love with their athleticism and stature... cause they haven't done **** yet this spring. Minus a couple decent hits from Bush and Crawford they have been absent. I need to see plays made ON THE BALL. Do any of our Safeties even have a pick yet this spring? Every time a practice video surfaces all I see is our CB's being toasted and our Safeties missing in action. And two of the players that all of you are most in love with, Carter and Burns, have been some of the most common victims.

I'll hold onto my excitement for now.

I'm not sure why anyone including yourself is making so much out of practice clips. We get 6 plays or so every two to three days. How many plays of 11 on 11 happen in a practice or controlled scrimmage.? Serious question. I don't know. I saw Bush make a spectacular play when Coley ran a post in a past video. Great technique and position. You were crushing Gunter because of fall practice clips last year. He wasn't spectacular in season but that supposed poor practice play that we tried to analyze from Canes Camp reports didn't become a reality in the season for him.

Well if the Safeties were making plays they would be on the clips, no?

Everybody else's stand-out plays make the clips. *shrug*

WildCat loves to rain in on parades.
Don't know what clips you been watching, but the improved safety play is being seen from their physical play especially in the run game where Carter, Bush and Crawford have stood out.
And don't know any safety in the nation that would be able to cover Coley deep. Especially with QB's not being hit.

Raining on parades? I'm sorry I'm not waving my pom poms around like some of you. I'm a realist. Our safeties haven't gotten any picks yet this spring, have they? If our WR's weren't catching TD's you'd be concerned. If our DE's weren't getting any sacks you'd be concerned.

Nobody is asking safeties to cover 1-on-1. I just wanna see them in the picture somewhere when the offense is bombing the **** out of us every practice.

Appreciate the effort in the update, but I'll pass on the second, third and fourth hand of information. Unless you have sat in every practice and both scrimmages, it's all hearsay and speculative.

As for Olsen, bring it on. Sure Williams probably brought more awareness for what the coaching staff wanted to do but his athletic ability was somewhat limited. Olsen on the otherhand brings much more athletic skill but lacks experience. For me, give me the athletic skill any day of the week and twice on Saturday's....

After going through 5 athletically talented QB's since Dorsey who have all had very little between the ears, you have the audacity to say something like that??? I was excited to see another QB in the Dorsey mold, but that's just me.

Pete why do you dislike Olsen so much? All reports are that he has made a jump this spring and he's got more tools than Williams. I get the fact that he was immature last spring, guess what, a lot of true freshman who are redshirting are immature.

He clearly has a leg up on Kaaya and Rosier and I feel like he has the tools to lead this offense.
