The OC Candidates Thread

I really don't get it. You telling me he doesn't know who is qualified before interviews? It 100% costs his top candidates because he is so **** slow. Schools often move at a fast pace and do just fine. I don't know how Rad doesn't call him on it.

Look, I'm not trying to argue here, but a statement like "It 100% costs his top candidates" is just hyperbole.

First, you don't know who his top candidates are, and second, you can't possibly put a "100%" on that.

We should have someone soon. Let's analyze the process and fit at that time.

Was Gattass on the radar for anyone last year? And most of us saying how bad he is(myself included) were excited to get him. Mario does things on his terms. He doesn't give a **** what Joe fan thinks.

That's the joke

Just being honest, I don't think the joke is very funny. It's certainly not a Miami-centric joke that everyone understands, maybe that's why so many people take it literally and miss the humor.

Just my 2 cents, carry on.

The traffic sure looks like it's built up.
It has. When I was still putting 20,000 on the car a year, I went to Tampa from Plantation a few separate times in 2019. If you left Tampa around 4pm, the traffic was shockingly backed up in Bradentucky and straight through to Sarasota. then, all of a sudden, it lightens up a ton between Venice and North Port.

The roads are not adequate for the traffic load.

It was more so going back a few pages when someone claimed that it was Heupel's offense that Frost was running. It was more of a reference to this beautiful disaster of a thread.

So is Miami OC a desirable position for a high-profile candidate? Manny Navarro broached the subject on the Big O show, saying some have been content to cash-in their new deals and stay put. Candle and Hartline the latest examples (assuming Mario pursued).
When you consider the overall talent on that side of the ball, is an upwardly mobile type going to be able to trade-up for a HC gig in say 2 years? Is that realistic? Navarro's contention is that last cycle, and possibly this one, Mario is waiting for answers from his favorite candidates. Seems he likely settled for his 4th choice last winter. Should/is consideration being given for a different  type of candidate?

Ahh. I had assumed that the OLB coach handled that "striker" position as well which I understood to be a hybrid safety/linebacker. But yeah if we only have 2 LBs then 2 DB coaches makes the most sense.
Good point, could be that as well. I guess it just depends on the makeup of the rest of your staff. For instance, Bama & UGA have 3 DB coaches when you add in the HC expertise.

Branson Deen is better than anyone we had on the roster at his position last year, and yes that includes Leonard Taylor because he plays about 2 snaps and then runs to the sideline.
I respect it when someone pushes their chips to the middle. I'm not expecting much out of Deen so that will be interesting. I agree Taylor's conditioning has been troubling to say the least. If he can put together a string of plays instead of 1 here or there he can be elite.

Both I think more than off-set Jackson in the slightest who was a bit overblown on these boards. High-motor guys that instead of project-ability, have stats to back it up. Deen is underrated; but it’s still not enough to satisfy anyone (and it shouldn’t). We need 1-2 more guys.

Secondary I’d also argue our #1 and #2 are better than last year - Stevenson was better than both, but Brown + Roberts > Stevenson and Ivey. Again, that’s not saying too much in the grand scheme of things and we need 1-2 more guys.

Safety is a bit of a disaster right now. If we go into 2023 with James Williams walzing into the #2 spot without a challenge, we failed.
I can agree with most of that. Jackson was definitely oversold and disappeared after week 6. I'm more concerned about DE though. Unless Kelly makes a jump this year we are in trouble.

I don’t know who Mario has pursued and who if any have turn him down. However, Candle and/or Hartline are very bad examples to try and make that correlation. You’re asking one to take a demotion and leave the area he’s been in most of his life while asking the other to make a lateral move from his dream job.

In a sense, it’s like saying Bama is unattractive because Mario turned down their OC/OL offer or when Saban retires if they offer Mario and he stays home (I know these are not exactly alike)

100

We got a lot of sacks last year but we didn’t have a real pass rush threat. Hopefully Moss is ready to play some snaps as well or we get a Mesidor type transfer after spring

Point taken. At the same time, those apparently are examples of the types of candidates Cristobal has pursued.
