Do you think that will overcome the short term gain with the bag? Take the money now and transfer later, I guess this remains to be seen.
EXACTLY. People going crazy over the "portal" are actually losing sight of the fact that we have to because the good ole Pastor left us in a pretty fuggin bad spot. Some of us were screaming to the mountaintop that Rev. Run was ******** up our numbers with certain positions but were told to calm down. Diaz comes in and immediately starts trying to fix the obvious ***** ups.

Do we follow the rule of if we recruited you and you choose somewhere else you aren't getting a second chance? Not going to curb all those, but certain takes away the thought of being able to do that.
Zero people here are missing that. Some are just allowing themselves to move on and get excited about the now vs. crying about the previous coach.

Agree with you in terms of Diaz's use of portal, short term resolve. A program and a culture will not be built from portal players, most here are thinking this is a solution, with potential for good comes potential for bad. Portal players are a wait and see.EXACTLY. You are doing the math wrong. 25 new kids a year is 100 kids over four years. Some will redshirt and stay a fifth, others will leave early or get processed. But it is absolutely wrong to think kids who leave after 3 years somehow create room for transfers. They create room for a new signee, but we can and should be focusing those spots on talented HS kids as much as possible, or we will regret it down the road. Tramsfers fill roster holes. Hopefully we have fewer of them when our recruiting is run properly and we are playing at or mear 85 kids on scholarship.
Also, just note that using one of your 25 new starter spots on a kid who has one year to play is a rouh decision. You need to use those spots on kids with minimum 2 years, amd ideally 3-4, if you want to maintain talent and depth.
This is completely falso, imo.I get all that. My point is that money is making it impossible for us to compete for many of top end kids and we can’t seem to get to and stay at 85 anyway. We need to impact the system and just *****ing and crying about others getting away with cheating has done nothing. This seems to be a way to increase talent level, if at the expense of the depth we can’t get anyway. If we win then the price of keeping the kids away from us out of HS might increase and open the door for us a little. Even Bama bags could have trouble with inflation if they only buy a year or two and then we get the kid free. If we don’t change a sytem intentionally set up to keep us out we are done.
Part of the HS recruiting pitch going forward HAS to be:
"See what school transfers who ALREADY know the college game are flocking to?"
"2-3yrs from now, all your peers are gonna be begging to leave their school they're choosing right now to come to Miami. Why not beat them here by signing here to start with?"
"All these college juniors and seniors, after seeing their recruiters lied to them, see Miami was the right school for them. Don't make the same mistake they did."
"Come right now. No sitting out. No waivers. No lawyers having to get you to where you need to be. Make your next move your best move."
Makes sense to me at least.
This is completely falso, imo.
The money excuse comes along after we have sucked so long that kids realize staying home looks like a BAD decision. Once they conclude that, they’re gling somewhere else. Where they go maybe has money as a factor. But if UM presents a compelling opportunity to local kids, we will do just fine. Money is not some new thing in CFB.
Secondly, the idea we cannot stay at or near 85 kids is crazy. Of course we can. All schools can. All it takes is effort. Golden got low because of sanctions, and Pricht just refused to do anything about it. There is ZERO reason to play with a short roster (absent sanctions) and any coach who does deserves to be fired.
Also, your Bama bags comment makes no sense to me. Kids who are succeeding at Alabama are not the ones transferring. Kids who aren’t succeeding there, not sure they are the kids we should be aspiring to add to our roster.

Wow at all of that.I don't think he meant we literally can't have 85, just that 2 different coaches have had trouble doing it over the course of a decade.
And it's the kids who are stars in HS that get bags but then don't start at bama that we're looking at. When you bring in all 4/5* kids every year, you've got a ton of talent sitting on the bench. That's not so much about who sucks as about how many guys can play at one time. There are plenty of talented kids who can succeed but just aren't doing it on their current team. For instance, I wouldn't be surprised if Cager goes somewhere and looks really good. He's got the ability, if he gets his concentration down he's going to make some OC very happy. Put it this way: if he were on another team, we'd take him as a transfer if we were light at WR.
Wow at all of that.
We have had four straight idiots as corches. If they could not run a full roster (excepting sanctions), that is on them. It tells you zero point zero about whether a new coach can fill the rooster.
As for the rest of what you wrote....
I hope we wouldn’t take Cager as a transfer. He has not been good. Other than the fact that he was overrated coming out of HS, he’s just an undistinguished guy with one year remaining. Pass.
and the logic that we should load up on kids who do not play at alabama is an argument rooted in failure. i couldn’t disagree more.
Yeah, sure man.Totally right. I was very much defending the idea that the roster can't be filled no matter what. Not pointing out that it's been a problem for years, I'm saying it can never be done at Miami. And Cager's the worst, no chance whatsoever he ever does anything. Catching the ball is definitely not something that can be improved with practice and better concentration. And if a kid isn't playing at another school and wants to play for us we should absolutely tell him to fck off. Fcking loser. What kind of no talent dipsht can't even start at bama?
