The D Coaching or Players?

I have had the argument with friends. With players like AJ and Cornel on the field the reason we suck or is Coach D. I feel its a little of both. Dont feel the players on the field are good enough to be out there and Coach D just doesnt seem to want to change his way of thinking with this team. The defense need the most help when Golden and Co got here. We still dont have a bunch of upper classmen, our best players on defense are either 2 year starters or 1st year. Our D line is still not very good.

Who the **** is Cornel? And why does this need a new thread?

I think he meant, "CORNHOLE," which is yet another descriptive nickname for D'Onofrio.

I was saying Cornelous (however the **** you spell his name). Didn't see a thread on anyone debating on this subject, so I started one.

Cornel LMFAO

fvck this thread. another half a$$ed attempt at excusing the worst DC in Miami history

Talent could be an excuse if we weren't getting shredded by offenses that lack talent.

And alot of the times guys are running wide open against our defense. That's not talent.

As someone else said running that wide open, had to be some sort of man d right?

Ono would take FSU #1 ranked pass defense, and have it in the 80's in no time.

100% Defensive Coaching

What's easier to do as an offense and a QB.... just keep hitting receivers constantly on short routes/screens, and using the run b/c the defense is given you everything underneath or taking shots down field constantly b/c the defense isnt giving you anything underneath?.... we know the answer Dorito would give for this question.

Usually an offense will run a spread formation so they can lessen the impact of a good defense by spreading them out... well Dorito spreads his defense out pre-snap and makes it easy for any OC and any type of offense to run whatever they want to w/o even having to break a sweat.

I think it's a mix of both. We need a better d line and we need backers that understand how to play in coverage.

We don't need bend but don't break crap

Bama and FSU's LBs play in smaller spaces in their zones not wide open where the safeties and corners should be and none should be expected to be able to keep up w/ a slot receiver.

it's coaching. I don't think it's debatable. If you're arguing that we don't have enough talent, you're also saying that we are on par or worse than Marshall, Duke, BC, Pitt, GT, ECU and the list goes on and on. All of those squads had better defensive efforts and by a wide margin.

I refuse to believe that outside of a handful of guys that arent Miami caliber, that we arent vastly superior to the teams listed with regards to talent.

It's year 3 and guys are still lost. That's coaching. If we are playing man and guys are "getting cut loose", it is because players don't know what they are supposed to be doing and that's coaching. It's not about how much zone or man or press we're playing. It's that after 3 years, guys who have been in this system for all 3 years just aren't getting it and that's coaching. We don't do any one thing well and with the athletes we have, that's a problem. David Gilbert was a sack specialist at Wisconsin...what? He lost all his talent on the flight down to Miami?

It's disappointing. One of the things I was excited about is that when this staff was hired they said "players not plays." They were going to fit the scheme to the players and clearly that's not being done.

The biggest problem is Coach D. Even with better players Coach D limits the potential of the D. However, at the same breath you can't have players like Highsmith who can't make any open field play to save his life, cornelius who blows coverages and assignments or plays like Shayon missing an easy dead to right sack that leads to a 20+ yard qb scramble or giving up a 3 and 17 touchdown on a dump off with multiple missed tackles. That's on the players.

I think next year our D improves will turning over an un-athletic senior class but it will still under perform its potential until Coach D either makes adjustments with more disguising, reducing LB depth and better blitz looks among others or until Coach D is replaced if he remains rigid to his current system.

op is a wlgger but I think it's all coaching.

Nobody is ever in a position to make a play. The only times this defense makes a play is when an opposing QB throws an errant pass.

Talent...

The D-line, LB's, and Safeties suck by Miami standards. The difference makers on the defensive chart are still to young to make the difference. Can't make chicken salad out of chicken ****.

Also need a QB for the offense because ours sucks ***.

The defense was in position all game long against UF. I seem to recall them picking up 5 turnovers. Maybe as the season has gone along and they've been left on the field all game long every game because our offense fails to sustain drives they've worn down a bit due to lack of depth?

No. It's the coaching. It sucks.
