I think it's something he's grown to value as a coach since he was in the Pac12 and saw a number of Poly players out West

He's being brought in to be a Poly connection and help with recruiting internationally. It's not like he's being handed the keys to the entire recruiting operation. Just a piece of the puzzle. Not to mention the guy has worked his way up the ranks, from high school coaching, to college, to NFL involvement.
