@DMoney any prediction on what player that was not a factor last year will be this year? Or just a surprise candidate in general?

after this Saturdays scrimmage will tell us a lot but I wasn’t kidding when I said this’ll be like a 2021 Lashlee Offense with a better Run game (and a much more elite OL) and a 2017/2018 Manny Diaz Defense (with more detail)

The physical OL with downhill running games do not play in our favor vs. with Texas A&M, Clemson, and FSU. All 3 will try to line up and punish us in the run game.
You do realize, Miami ran for 175 yards on 39 carries on the road at Texas A&M in 2022! This was when Miami Oline was still healthy! That was the best run game with healthy Oline against a talented team in the last two years.

We had a couple years under Golden with multiple NFL players on the line. Unfortunately, those years, we'd score 30 and still lose.
The 2014 Oline is the best Oline the last 20 years! It was Brad Kaaya freshman year and Duke Johnson final year. Duke ran for 1649 yards 6.8ypc! This with teams stacking the box with freshman QB. 6 to the top 8 Oline guys played in the NFL at least 4 years! Eric Flowers was 1st round pick. I believe 3 of the guys are still in the NFL now!

I was watching some of Kaaya highlights and some of the pockets they gave him was playoff level and some huge running lanes. That boi knew OL man. Golden simply would never get rid of No D. It was mind boggling.

Might be nitpicking, we will see how the season goes, but I'm disappointed we didn't fully address our issue at defensive tackle to add a plugger. Nothing worse than seeing teams run down our throats. Hopefully Guidy can get creative but I'm worried top teams will take advantage of this weakness.

So to Recap…2022 Vs 2023

OC - HUGE upgrade
DC - big upgrade

QB - More consistent due to OC
RB - Better size/depth (4 quality starters)
TE - more versatility/better depth
WR - More depth/consistency (better scheme too)
OL - massive upgrade in: Size/Depth/maturity/talent

DE - Big time Upgrade/better depth
DT - similar depth as last year but more maturity
LB - More depth/talent/speed
CB - Better Talent but still questions
S - same as last year except with more improvement

K - Equal if not better due to maturity
P - most likely a downgrade due to Hedley being a top Punter

We have the QB + 4 RBs that have the ability to take over a game + an O-Line that’s 8 Deep and ALSO has the ability to enforce their will + Elite DEs that can absolutely get to the QB & Elite/Experienced safeties in Kinchens + J Williams that can man the back.

+ major improvements at WR/LB?!

Sorry y’all I’m sipping that Kool-Aid…
Your not sipping any Kool-Aid! Miami the last 10 years has averaged a top 20/15 in recruiting ranking with two top 10 recruiting classes. The last 5 years, Miami recruiting classes has been 2nd to Clemson in the ACC. Mario F up with his DC and especially his OC hires in 2022! He should have kept the offense similar to Lashlee offense catered to TVD strengthens and worked on his weakness for the 2022 season. Nope! Miami in 2022 was one of 16 teams to have blue chip ratio of 50% or higher at 55%. Miami in 2023 blue chip ratio is 61% as 8/15/2023! I don't want to hear excuses. We should never see a Miami team look like 2022 where, they didn't compete in most games and get blown out 5 times by P5 and non P5 teams for 5 and 7 record which easily could have been 3 and 9! Say what you want about Manny Diaz but the 2021 team that was 7 and 5, they actually competed and fought in every game to the 4th quarter with chance to win except game 1 against Alabama. Based on talent, Miami has the 2nd best roster in the ACC coming into the 2023 season. I believe, we have the best QB or at worst top 5 QB in TVD. He showed we what he was made of in 2021 with loses and wins over top 20 teams in ACC champs Pitt and NC State who both beat Clemson in 2021 something Miami hasn't come close to doing. Mario makes 8 million per year and staff is 1# or 2# in the ACC in pay! We need to see some coaching that will get Miami 2 to 3 games not just on talent.

I'm back from vacation and still getting my legs under me. But here is the latest. For convenience, I've separated the recruiting scoop (available here) from the team scoop. This is the latest from Greentree:

- After an uneven beginning to camp, QB Tyler Van Dyke has begun to turn it on. I am told he's looked unbelievable the last ten days and is really blossoming in the new offense.

- The buzz on QB Emory Williams is real, and he is pushing hard for the backup spot. The stock on QB Jacurri Brown is down after a bad scrimmage, but these things change quickly and some of his best attributes don't show without QBs going live. This is an ongoing battle.

- In the past, when I focused on RB Mark Fletcher and RB Ajay Allen on the Bank or the Podcast, some folks felt I was ignoring the more experienced talent. But there was a reason I focused on those two- they have been the two best backs all offseason and flashed huge in the scrimmage. Of course, the true test for a running back is the game, but both of these guys are generating buzz with coaches and players.

- Miami is extremely pleased with the first-team OL after the scrimmage. The next three up are likely OT Matthew McCoy, OT Samson Okunlola and OG Logan Sagapolu. I've talked about McCoy a bunch in the past, and the hype from the Hecht is only building. He is one of the biggest OL on the team and has even played some tight end with numbers down due to (minor) soft tissue injuries. They think McCoy, Mauigoa, Samson and Kinsler all have big NFL futures if they keep working. The biggest concern with the OL remains backup center.

- Wide receiver still lacks a proven #1 but is an improved group. The clear top three are Colbie Young, Xavier Restrepo and Jacolby George. George is having his most consistent camp of his career and is clearly feeling the competition. If he stays strong off the field, he could be in for a big year. The next two names to watch are Tyler Harrell (speedy with inconsistent but improving hands) and RayRay Joseph (still working hard on his hands as a former RB, but deadly after the catch).

- Leonard Taylor is having a very strong camp. Branson Deen is a high-motor, twitchy player who causes a lot of disruption. Our weakness up front will be big OLs and physical running games. Our strength will be the interior pass rush. Akeem Mesidor, Nyjalik Kelly and Reuben Bain are the top names to know on the edge, although Jayden Wayne is flashing more consistently than spring and pressing for real playing time. If Joshua Horton had been here in spring, he may have already been in the two-deep. Ahmad Moten is a legitimate talent but needs more consistency.

- Competition has elevated the linebacker room. Francisco Maugoia is an unquestioned starter and KJ Cloyd and Wesley Bissainthe are battling hard. Guys like Corey Flagg and Keontra Smith are playing their best ball since the new regime took over and look to provide solid depth. Of the true freshman, I'm told Popo Aguirre and Marcelles Pulliam have been very consistent with Aguirre the furthest ahead.

- Defensive back is the biggest area to watch on defense. Jaden Davis has been very consistent and profiles the best at nickel. He will play a lot. The Brown Brothers (Devonte and Damari) have the inside track to start outside, with Daryl Porter pushing them. Tecory Couch is also in the mix in the nickel and outside. Jadais Richard, like Davis, is likely going to serve as a Swiss Army knife to plug holes in multiple spots. He may be our third best option at safety. Don't read much into James Williams not playing the first snaps at safety- he is a starter along with Kam Kinchens.

- In general, I continue to hear great things about Lance Guidry. He is going to cause a lot of problems for ACC offenses.
Im ready boysssss

I’d love to know more about Citizen’s progress from injury. With Parrish, Allen, Fletcher, and Chaney, assuming Chaney can stay healthy, there isn’t an urgent need to rush Citizen back into the lineup.

Are medical redshirts still a thing? If he’s held out until the last few games of the season, can he still take a redshirt?

I was watching some of Kaaya highlights and some of the pockets they gave him was playoff level and some huge running lanes. That boi knew OL man. Golden simply would never get rid of No D. It was mind boggling.
As the season went on, Kaaya got more comfortable with the blitzes and stacked boxes! In the FSU games, they tried to blitzs and stack the box against Kaaya in the 1st half in that 2014 game. Kaaya carved them up with big plays to Dorsett, Wofford and Watters. The 2nd half FSU basically said let Duke run the ball and make freshman Kaaya read the zone. Well, he was slower at reading the zone because, well, he was freshman. They sacked him multiple times in that 2014 and FSU came back from being down 17 to win the game. In the 2015 game with Kaaya as a sophomore, with Duke gone and 4 of the starting Oline gone, Miami couldn't run the ball on anybody let alone FSU. Kaaya had his best game as Cane and one of the best QB performances by a Cane QB against FSU. Kaaya had no running game! Miami ran for like 30 yards on 28 carries. FSU had to good DE. They didn't fear Miami running game. They didn't have to stack the box. They just played coverage to let their DE get back on Kaaya. They had tremendous pressures and 4 sacks in that game. However, Kaaya had 407 yards, 3TD and no TO in spite of the pressure. Kaaya was throwing dimes to Stacy Coley, Herb Watters and Rashawn Scott! They where killing FSU secondary. If they had any kind of running just to give Kaaya a break from the FSU pass rush, Miam wins that game. Mind you, those 2014 and 2015 FSU teams were loaded with talent!

They are, but if he is as advertised no way in **** he is here for 6 years. TF last year took a shirt so he has 4 years to play, even if he only gets a few touches at the end of this year no way he stays 4 more after that to make a medical redshirt necessary.
