The Bank (6/11)

Landing those guys right there would change the program. 2 of them depending on who could change the entire defense.

Pancake and Sisi all over again on the other side. And they make each other better.

Add them to Kelly, Bain, Moss, Wayne, Achaempong, Cohen and Horton and we start seeing the right depth and class progression of talent, as well.

This was a huge weekend and it went very well. Here is the latest on this week's visitors:

- Let me start with a disclaimer, before we get to the good stuff. This isn't the old days where you wait for a flurry of commitments after a big weekend. Big-time kids and their teams know their value and understand the leverage of visits. Here is the good news: Miami is still playing the NIL game in a major way and we're developing strong bonds between the players, the staff and the school through multiple visits. But everyone should understand there is more strategy involved these days, on both sides. This will all play out over time.

- If NSD were today, I would feel very good about Miami's chances with DE Dylan Stewart (Washington DC), DT Aydin Breeland (Los Angeles) and DE Colin Simmons (Dallas). Still a ton of work ahead of us, but we have a great recruiter in Jason Taylor and, even more importantly, a seasoned closer in Mario Cristobal.

- DT David Stone (IMG) also had an excellent visit. The reason I'm not including him in the first group is that I suspect his recruitment will have twists and turns. Miami is firmly in the game.

- If NSD was today, I'd expect CB Ellis Robinson (IMG) to be a Georgia Bulldog. If Miami has a good season on the field, I'd expect Robinson to sign with the Miami Hurricanes. It's that simple with him right now.

- I like Miami to land a commitment this week from TE Elija Lofton (Las Vegas). They view him as "one of the best pure football players in the country." I was told he would play a "funky role" for the Canes due to all the various things he can do. It was also pointed out that he is much more athletic than people think, as verified by testing numbers. "He can really run."

- As we've reported for several weeks, Miami absolutely loves recent commit LB Cameron Pruitt (Mobile). They view him as the ideal linebacker for modern football due to his ability to cover, run and strike. Lavonte David comparisons. He is also a sharp young man. They have him measured at 6'2.5 and a bit under 200 with a projection in the 215 range.

- DL LJ McCray (Daytona Beach, FL) is feeling very good about Miami. I expect a long battle there, though.

- RB Jerrick Gibson (IMG) enjoyed his visit and is a realistic possibility for this class. One thing to watch: Florida just lost Chauncey Bowens to Georgia and will be desperate for a replacement. We've seen Florida do some weird things when they are desperate.

- The two names to watch next week: DT Justin Scott (Chicago) and RB Kevin Riley (Tuscaloosa, AL). There is a feeling those two may be closer to the end of the process than others and Miami will push hard there. Both are extremely high on the list of priorities.

- Hard to get a read on WR Braylon Staley (Aiken, SC). He definitely liked the visit. We will know a lot more after his Tennessee visit next week.

- Miami did good work with CB Sione Laulea (JUCO). That process will take a while but we are in the game there.

- Miami likes DL TJ Lindsay (IMG) but he is another one that is harder to read.

- LB Keyshawn Flowers (Baltimore, MD) had a good visit but I'm not sure that's where we land. Miami is still extremely hot on the trail of LB James Nesta (Charlotte). They would love to match him with Pruitt and Shavers. If that goes sideways in his next couple visits, I could see Miami being patient here. There are other options which may present themselves in time.

- OT Tye Hylton (Orlando) is showing a lot of interest and Miami really likes him as a developmental tackle. They didn't push for a commitment because the expectation is he will visit Florida. Once that visit takes place, Miami will evaluate where they are at. There is still a lot of potential movement on the tackle board and I expect that picture to become clearer in the next couple weeks.
If you don't put out a new Bank every 5 mins, porsters are going to lose thier shiznizzle.

Peeps hanging by a thread here...

D, you and I talk to similar people it seems. Only thing a little different I got is that McCray hinted at committing to Miami but they held off on that since he wants to take visits.

Nesta was all excited in the moment as well I'm told, but the family wants him to take his time, which probably isn't perfect for Miami, but doesn't mean it's a negative.

That DL class has a possibility to come together in a major way.

Interesting your thoughts on Stone, as something keeps making me believe he's not the lock some hope for. I honestly don't have any idea where he ends up, but Miami is not going to lose out for lack of effort.

Several people have mentioned how big the addition of Jason Taylor has been to the recruiting on the DL.
@DMoney

What is the pressure point that gets the "yes".

Is it mostly NIL deals now?

*** to mouth signed 8 DL/Edge that year of which 7 were in the top 100, 5 were in the top 50 and 4 of them were in the top 5 DL. The 8th guy was #427, total scrub. It’s going to be really hard for anyone to surpass that, not just Miami. Doesn’t matter though, we don’t need to sign an all time class to land a killer DL which I believe we will do.
If we manage to bring in a spectacular class i will let the NFL draft tell me who had the better class.

Yeah was strictly answering his question as it pertains to recruiting rankings. Class can definitely end up being better once enrolled and that’s really what matters.

They still go where they want to go. They just squeeze the most out of everyone, as they should.
DMoney that being said.........how do the Coaches adapt to this?....This is so contrary to what Mario has done over the years........the wait must be driving them crazy....

They just need to keep recruiting. If big-time kids want to go to Miami, we will be in good shape. We have plenty of NIL money.

Prepare yourself. There will probably be 1,000 more posts asking about whether we should now all jump off of a tall building because the public announcments do not SEEM to match what was "predicted" by the hated insiders.
At this point I realize some people can’t be reasoned with

They either do it because they’re bored and just feel like *****ing, or they’re genuinely unable to think beyond the current day

For a refresher, here are the commits we had prior to June 25.

Lamar Seymore (committed 4/16/2020)
Antonio Tripp (committed 3/8/2022)
Robby Washington (committed 3/24/2022)
Bobby Washington (committed 3/24/2022)
Frankie Tinalau (committed 4/11/2022)

Jackson Carver (committed 6/14/2022)
Reid Mikeska (committed 6/19/2022)
Emory Williams (committed 6/20/2022)

Other than Robby (package deal), mostly three-star guys. A little more action mid to late June, then here comes the peak summer push. Wave after wave of blue chippers.

Jaden Rashada (committed 6/26/2022)
Nathaniel Joseph (committed 6/28/2022)
Robert Stafford (committed 6/30/2022)
Riley Williams (committed 7/1/2022)
Antoine Jackson (committed 7/3/2022)
Francis Mauigoa (committed 7/4/2022)
Jaden Wayne (committed 7/9/2022)
Tommy Kinsler (committed 7/28/2022)
Malik Bryant (committed 7/27/2022)
Connor Lew (committed 8/5/2022)

Might be missing a few, but taking into this approach + the fact we had a dismal season and many recruits will be in wait-and-see mode, I think we’ll see a similar (maybe even later) trajectory.

So if I read above correctly, no reason for mass CIS seppuku until 6 Aug 23?

How will we deal with panic and anxiety until then!?

Feels like we are so close to so many good things.

Very interesting that the results this season will matter. Hope Mario knows this.

Good to know we won’t be getting any big commitments any time soon. I assume none of the other schools will be either.
Expect a lot of commitments mid to late July. That's how it went last year

Yep. I said in another thread but if you look at last year's top 50 recruits, about 40% committed by end of summer (most of them in June/July) and 40% committed by NLOI day in Dec. The rest were either fall commits or NLOIx2. It's much more likely that we land big time commits on defense than we are skill position guys in the summer.

The 2023 and 2024 cycles can't be compared to any other class because of the change in the recruiting calendar and transition to lots of summer OVs being a thing now. There's no reason for high priority kids to commit early and not vet their NIL options. Then, guys that commit in July and August now are much more solid commits than ever before because they've probably already wrapped up visits instead of waiting until December. A lot of them do want to wrap it up before their HS season though.

My guess we hit another July streak of highly rated commits. Last I heard, and this may have been mentioned I'm just not keeping up lately, is they expect at least 4 more 4* or higher commits by the end of July and 2 more 3*. Of course, this is recruiting rankings and not their view.. they think each of these 6 they mentioned are top 150-200 players in the country. That's their current expectation of how it plays out as far as I've heard. I think 2 of them are already what many call a "silent" but aren't counting on them 100% until it's public.

Edit: and this was before they started expanding the board to guys like the German OL that's visiting now. Guys like that I wouldn't be surprised if they start pushing for a commit and shut it down or we just move on kind of deals. Sort of like what Alabama did with Ionata.
