Miami is about to go big-game hunting. There are multiple future first-round picks visiting in June, and we are trying to get as many we can. Expect a lot of updates on those five stars in the weeks to come.
- Don’t be surprised if Miami lands another QB in this class. They love Judd Anderson but they could take two. Colin Hurley (LSU commit) is a real name.
- As I mentioned in my last update, Miami really likes DL Wyatt Gilmore (Minneapolis). He has since scheduled an official visit this weekend and we have a chance to make a serious move. We would take his commitment with no hesitation.
- Miami did some digging and there is not much to the WR JoJo Trader crystal ball to FSU. They want him, they’re recruiting him hard and they will have a great shot until the end.
- DL T.A. Cunningham (Central) will be down at camp next week, which will give Miami coaches a chance to really evaluate him up close. He has bounced around the country in his high school career.
- TE Amir Jackson (Georgia) worked out on campus today and put on a show. I could see Miami putting on the full-court press even as they continue to go after Caleb Odom. Miami/Florida battle for Jackson.
- RB Kewan Lacy (Texas) will not be visiting this week. Miami likes him but they have a plan at the position. Keep a close eye on RB Kevin Riley (Tuscaloosa).
- JUCO CB Demetrius Freeney will be on campus this weekend and Miami will push hard. He has size, speed (10.9 100M) and athleticism as a former QB. Even if he is raw right away, he gives us a high upside future prospect to make up for attrition in the ’22 and ’23 classes. Freeney was a full-qualifier out of JUCO and can play three more years.
- CB Jamari Howard (Central) is similar to Cunningham in that it is hard to get a great evaluation on him. He hasn’t played much football, and didn’t play much at all this spring. Miami is monitoring him.
- DB Ryan Mack (STA) is another name Miami is monitoring. He is the son of former Cane Rod Mack and has a 10.83 100M time.
- Under-the-radar name that Mirabal loves- OL Eddie Tuerk (Chicago). He has P5 offers as a defensive tackle and Miami thinks he has tackle athleticism. Another top target is OL Jordan Seaton (Washington DC). Our chances with him went up since he transferred to IMG. OL Zuri Madison (Lexington, KY) may not look like a five-star on the hoof but he has some of the best tape the staff has evaluated this cycle.
- One big name to watch at CB is Dakoda Fields (Los Angeles). He is visiting this month and there is strong mutual interest. We also like Jaylen Heyward (Rockledge) at CB.
- Sleeper name to remember at CB- Jamil Watkins at Ocala Vanguard.
- Miami is putting its best foot forward with two WRs very high on its board: Drelon Miller (Port Arthur, TX) and Tank Hawkins (IMG). We have more traction with Hawkins going in but have a chance to make a move with Miller on the visit.
- LB James Nesta (Charlotte) is high on the board and there is mutual interest. He could emerge as a name to watch this weekend.
- All of our signees are in school already except for OL Frankie Tinilau, who will arrive next semester. WR Tyler Harrell and RB Chris Johnson have flashed rare speed, even compared to some of the elite players our staff has coached at other stops. Three names that have stood out early in workouts: RB Mark Fletcher, OL Tommy Kinsler and LB Marcellius Pulliam. Kinsler is bigger than Francis Mauigoia and Samson Okunlola and has “slimmed down” to 340. I’m told he still runs like someone who is 240. Pulliam has also impressed with his size (6’3, 230) and speed, as he has outrun several of our faster LBs in workouts. He was hurt last year, which is why his HL from the second half of the season are so much better than the first.
