You make fair points. I do have concerns that we are in "the bottom of the 9th" with Portal WR commits, but I also have some confidence in our younger players. You remember I was asking when Colbie would ever see the field BEFORE his breakout game, and I think Ray Ray and Robbie/Bobbie (I'm gonna get 'em confused until they start playing) will be pleasant surprises.
And while there's probably an element of "Slurpers vs. Mopers" to it, we have some on the board who have unrealistic expectations about how much "news" will break each day, and what the "spring Portal window" actually means. I've tried a few times to point out that Portal business has been sloooow outside of Colorado and Louisville, but we still have people who think we should be getting Portal commits within 72 hours of a name being dropped as a "target" or "potential visit".
That's why I loved
@DMoney 's post so much, it validates what many have said, that Mario is working hard and silently, but that it does NOT always guarantee the desired Portal results when you factor in the weirdness of NIL-asks and starter-role-demands.
I still think that if we pull 6 commits, with 4 who can be starters, there will still be dissatisfaction on the part of certain posters. But that is an eternal ongoing conversation, sadly.
For now, I'm going to trust Mario's gift of gab and the beautiful SoFla weather to impress these upcoming visitors. It's in the 40s right now in Atlanta, and I'm wondering when summer will start (by Florida standards).
We are still going to have some holes in 2023 and it might take even longer to build true depth that doesn't cause us to panic when a player limps off the field, but I'll be out there for most of the games, cheering and expecting us to win.
I also boo sometimes and yell at guys who **** up, so I'm balanced. I don't slurp or mope.
