The Athletic Recruiting: Elite ’23 prospects discuss NIL deals, photo shoots, best visits

Regardless of who it is. Don’t knock someone just because their priorities differ from yours. If I wasn’t a Miami fan I would want a college town where I’m the most famous and the stadium holds 80k every Saturday.
I’m not mad at them about it. Not everyone likes the big city and Miami is very unique place, not for everyone.

so 98% of these kids grew up poor, with minimal education to support them, in challenging circumstances ..... yet NIL $ was THIRD on their list??

I call that "bovine excrement" to the nth degree.
These kids are also the elite prospects in the country probably all are ranked in the top 50. So they were all getting top NIL $ no matter what school they were going to. Why wouldn't something like player development not be the deciding factor in making their decision?

Elite guys can get paid anywhere though, so from an opportunity cost perspective the NIL part isn't a huge factor. Also the NIL deals for most are still a fraction of a Rd 1 draft pick contract and the endorsements that come with it -- so it makes sense to say development for NFL is the most important factor.

FYI. Saban is in the process of building/bringing a high end hotel to Alabama with 2 high end restaurants. You can hate the guy but he is once again making a move that maybe minor for how well they recruit but its just another detail.

This was another quote from from 'Player 10' that was in response to "Best hotel, city and restaurant from your trips?" - not sure if it would change your guess:

Player 10: Miami. The other places were college towns. Embassy Suites at Alabama was nice. The best restaurant was in Oregon. We ate in the middle of the stadium and had it catered.

Uh, that's not a restaurant, then...

That is the point that I think several of them were trying to make. That being said, I bet some of these kids might change their mind if they have a breakout sophomore year and aren't getting the NIL they think they were going to get at that school and decide to look at the portal.

Could be that if they are getting "similar" NIL from every suitor, that the "differentials" are not as big of a factor.

Even on this board, there are some posters who think that if one school offers $1 more than another, the kid picks the high bid.

If Innis is not one of the 15 interviewed, I can definitely say that he chose "less NIL money" at Ohio Taint, so there are other considerations.

Now, if all 15 interviewed had some schools that offered millions, while other schools offered NOTHING, then I would definitely say that NIL was the #1 factor.

Article is a bit dated (from last week), but it was interesting to hear the anonymized responses from AA recruits on the NIL: https://theathletic.com/4044579/2023/01/03/college-football-recruiting-nil-2/

"Player 10" references Miami a few times. Out of curiosity, who do you think he is? Perhaps Innis? The recruit suggests that the "guy who does the NIL stuff" for Miami (i.e., Ruiz) was offering him 7 figures but he still didn't end up choosing Miami. Apparently, Miami was also recruiting him the hardest.

Yeah, but ****, do you blame Innis for not picking us? Kid made the smartest choice for sure not coming here. Until we get our offense fixed we will never be a destination for 5* receivers.
