Duke - we all saw what happened when we lost him last year. He must be transcendent every week.

Heaps - he's got the experience needed to be the steady hand this offense requires to be good.

Perryman - needs to be the next in the long line of great Canes MLBs.

Wyche - must assert himself from day 1 and be the plug this defense requires to be successful.

McCord - we haven't had a great pass rusher since Olivier Vernon. McCord needs to be that guy.

Bush - haven't had a really good safety. He needs to change games.

Coley - his big play ability needs to carry us to some wins.

Yearby - must take some of the load off Duke. Must provide this team with big plays.

Dorsett - was deadly as a deep threat before getting hurt. Must develop into an all-around WR.

Goudis - must be relied upon as a weapon because we're going to need points.

1. Wyche. It's been said ad nauseum but it's the truth, an interior lineman needs to step up.
2. Perryman. He needs to lead the defense, both being vocal and on the field.
3. Jake Heaps. He just needs to be efficient, not all world. If he can do that a coastal title is within reach.
4. Stacy Coley. With the situation at QB the WR core needs to play well, Coley can be a all American.
5. Duke. If he's on the field then all is good, just needs to stay healthy. Heisman contender if he does.
6. AQM. Getting a rush with the front 4 is crucial if we're gunna play such a conservative defense.
7. Clive Walford. Same idea as Coley. Needs to step up and be the security blanket for the new QB.
8. Tracy Howard. He's the best player in a secondary that might be the best in the acc, he needs to play like it if there gunna live up to the hype.
9. Joe Yearby. Same as OP, needs to take some stress off duke.
10. McCord. Back to front 4 pass rush, GET AFTER THE QB.

Basically the stars need to play like stars, and the Dline needs to produce. Those things happen and we're winning 10 games and the coastal.

Walford could do big things. Needs to focus on catching the ball better but his athleticism is there.

Yearby will be knocking on the door hard... Plus he has that break-away speed you like in a back..

1. Heaps
2. Duke
3. McCord
4. Wyche/Heurtelou
5. Perryman
6. Coley
7. AQM
8. Carter
9. Chickillo
10. Howard

i think Armbrister really takes that huge leap this year. pressure is on now with Figs and Blue gone

Here's mine:

1- Jake Heaps - if he doesn't play well game one, UM is toast. Ditto all games after that where he's the starting QB.

2- Erick Flowers - to dominate the the Oline has to step up, and Flowers is the leader.

3- Duke Johnson - the heart and soul of the team, if he has a big year that means the Offense is clicking. Needs to stay healthy.

4- Denzel - the LB's need to step up, and Perryman is the anchor.

5- Ufomba - the Canes need a pass rush, and Kamalu is my most likely candidate to take that next step.

6- Deon Bush - UM needs strong safety play, and supposedly Bush is healthy and should be the leader of this group.

I'm stopping at 6. If those half dozen play well, UM has a good season.

I think player development is at such a high level, that we'll see a completely different team this year.

UL just got lucky a couple times on us, but we have to dust ourselves off and keep doing whatever we need to do, whenever we can, to reach whatever level of excellence we . . . the team . . . no, wherever the coach has determined we should be.

And with more hands on coaching, this year will be awesome.

Agree with all ^^^^ but I would add $Malcolm to the list. He will be as important as Walford in sustaining drives. With Coley and Dorsett stretching the top of the defense, $Malcolm and even Berrios are gonna be big factors in keeping the chains moving.

1) Wyche/Heurtelou- Whoever will stop the run
2) Duke- Best player on the field on any day
3)Flowers/Oline- have to keep our QB upright
4)Our QB- Doesnt matter to me, im a Kaaya fan. . . i just want to scream "Look at Felisha son"
5)Perryman- Going to be a leader, have to keep the LBs tight
6)Anyone that plays DE- cant have all day to throw the ball, someone please demand a double team
7)Howard- has to be lock down
8)Coley-Instantly changes field position
9)yearby-If he can come in and get 500 i trust we had a great season rushing
10)Carter- even if he doesnt start having a backup with his ability will only make RJ & Deon better

I think the one player that will come out of nowhere and surprise everyone is Olsen Pierre. He has steadily improved every year since he's been here, and I think he takes the next step this season. He has the prototypical body type and skills needed to be an elite DT.

That said, I think our defensive line, as a unit, will surprise a lot of people. Chickillo and Pierre will both be drafted, IMO. Then you have Huertelu, who looked big and strong in the spring, and you have some pretty slick edge guys in Muhammed and McCord and of course Chad Thomas.

Just a pretty good looking unit overall, on paper.

I think the guys who are question marks who need to step up if we're going to have a good season are 1.) Jake Heaps (or Olsen, whoever starts) 2.) Taylor Gadbois 3.) Our depth guys on the o-line 4.) Every linebacker not named Perryman

Walford could do big things. Needs to focus on catching the ball better but his athleticism is there.

Most overrated Cane IMO.

Not a big Walford fan. Tired of watching that guy drop key passes. Tight end is supposed to be your safety valve, supposed to catch EVERYTHING.

Personlly I would bench him and give Sandland/Dobard a chance.

Not sleeping on Yearby, but A guy that nobody mentioned who has the ability to really help us is Edwards. Can he run bigger and tougher this year and really open things up for Duke and the passing game? Edwards will get carries in the Q1 against Louisville, hopefully we see good things. Now the most important player is whoever is playing QB, we have to get good QB play.

1. Hepas/Williams/Olsen/Kaaya/Rosier: We need someone ( would love that to be Kaaya) to take control of the offense.
2. Duke: Same reason you stated
3. OL: This OL has to play big all season or it's going to be a long *** year
4. Wyche: We need the plug in the middle.
5. Perryman: Needs to be the leader of the defense
6. McCord/Muhhamd: which of these guys is going to wreak havoc week in and week out
7. Coley: need more consistency and big plays
8. T. Howard: lockdown one side of the field.
9.Carter: I think this kid is going to live up to the weight room hype
10. Warlord: give the new QB a nice security blanket

Yearby will be knocking on the door hard... Plus he has that break-away speed you like in a back..

I wouldn't say exactly break away speed. But his vision, cuts, moves and quick feet(possibly best feet on the team.). He does have some speed, but I wouldn't say breakaway. But for comparison sakes, don't hate me for this. Warrick Dunn. Can run inside or out, can catch passes out the backfield. Not great speed but good speed. Very well rounded back and exactly what we need when duke is taking a breather. If Yearby does well, should solidify himself as the starter when Duke passes the torch when he leaves.

Thing is, it really didn't matter if it was a five yard pass or a forty yard pass - Morris had to bullet every single one. Those few times he pulled it back, it went in the dirt at his feet.

Just saying, some of those drops - were like trying to catch incoming artillery rounds.

Thanks to Golden's wonderful recruiting, we have more quarterbacks than a bus has seats, so I'm sure he'll find one with some touch.

Go Canes.

My 10.

1. The QB - Whoever it is, needs to play good. Get the ball to our playmakers (Duke, Yearby, Coley, Dorsett, Waters, Lewis, etc.)
I'm thinking Kaaya or Olsen. Right now, leaning towards Kaaya. Would have said Olsen if he didn't have the off field issues and suspension and the spring game flop. He played great all spring till the spring game. For now Kaaya is the man IMO. Who knows when Williams comes back. I think Heaps is insurance if worst comes to worst.

2. Duke - we need him to stay healthy. Was on pace to break records last year and almost recorded 1000 yards rushing in half a season last year. Apparently his timed runs are back where they need to be. And hopefully the added strength makes him more durable. He will be relied on heavily this season. He says he's faster now too. Hope he puts it to good work. Duke is what Miami was made of. Hard Worker. Special player and could cement his legacy even deeper this year breaking some records. He brings a big threat on returns. All-American year is set for him, everything is needed. Breaking in a new qb, he's going to need carry us at times.

3. Coley - What more could you ask for in a freshman receiver, had the rough start in his first game. But made progress as the season progressed and became a star. He's as dynamic possibly even more than Santana was when he was here, in all facets of the game. If we have good qb play. Sky is the limit. Good qb play = expect 1000+ yards and 10+ TDs from this playmaker and possibly a reverse or two to the house and some returns to the house. He's that good. He is OUR Sammy Watkins if you want to put it that way. Sure fire all-American if he's healthy.

4. Perryman - Has turned into a true leader of this team. 100+ tackles last year and lots of backbreaking hits. He does need help from the rest of the D unit especially two new starters next to him at LBer... hopefully upgrades but I expect another big year and possibly an all-American season.

5. Wyche or Huertolou - Whichever one of these two big hog mollies steps into the nose tackle role. They need to take on two offenders and hold the line and wreak havoc in the middle to let our pass rushers, improved secondary and our star linebacker to play freely. One of them needs to fill that role, and fill it good.

6. The O-Line, mainly Flowers - Breaking in a new qb, we need good protection and confidence for our qb. And the o-line needs to make push for our running backs in Duke, Yearby and Gus to create holes. Because we will probably rely on the run more often early in the season. These guys will take us far into the win column with their play this season.

7. Howard - Every year he has improved, and if he lives up to his potential which I surely expect him to do. Could be talking about a high number of picks for him in the secondary if we have an improved front 7.

8. Muhammad,McCord, and Thomas - We need 1 of these guys to emerge as a big threat as a pass rusher. McCord and Muhammad have shown promise but they must take the next step. Thomas is a 5 star talent coming in size ready to wreak havoc. If one could step up in a big way, it would go a long way for our defense to improve from the abysmal decline it has shown the last few years. Heck even if two or all three of them can. The more the merrier.

9. The safeties mainly Dallas - I expect Deon to have one spot locked in as a starter. And I expect him to come back strong, many players have slump seasons in their careers, it's happened to many players who have come through here before. He showed great promise as a freshman and some flashes last year through injury and the rough time with his fathers illness. I believe he comes back strong and becomes what we need back there. I have Carter and Dallas as an or between each other. I think Carter gets more starts at safety and I think he brings elite athleticism and measurables to the table and knockout ability. I expect a sophomore surge for him and a good season, some picks too. I see Dallas playing more of a nickel/safety role. That's why I have him as an or with Carter. I think Dallas brings great leadership to the defense, and can see him really motivating his teammates and being an impact out there in multiple roles, he's versatile, which I see that being a good reason why staff would have hard time keeping him off the field, his natural position is at DB, so he should be a lot more comfortable, you don't just pick off 19 passes in two years like its nothing, he was a ballhawk coming out and hopefully still is. As for Jenkins, I don't have him as a starter but we always rotate the top 4 and I think he brings good athleticism and size to the position as well, he needs to be more consistent but definitely we have upgraded our safety rotation over night and it will play a big part. I expect Hester and Gayot to impact special teams and for Hester to get some time maybe even more if someone goes down and impress on the field.

10. Yearby - Every year we have a freshman who emerges and this year I expect it to be Yearby. We sorely missed dukes impact when he went down last year and we took a big hit with it. But the addition of Yearby brings a very talented back who can make an impact in the running, receiving and possibly return game. Yearby is next in line for Canes running back legacy.

Honorable Mention -

Kirby & Grace

Dorsett, Waters, & Lewis

Walford or Dobard

Lol at those with any offensive player in their top 2 or 3. Clearly they don't get it.
