Terry Jefferson hired as Assistant DB Coach

So we are going to fix this secondary but forget to upgrade at DL and LB?
Would adding 1 more at each position be considered fixing to you? We've already added 1 DT. And we have kept Mesidor and likely mostly will only play him at EDGE except for pass downs.

What I'd prefer is add a top LB and Wes to transfer out. I'd take that 100/100. And I don't even think Wes was all that bad. He was average. Plus I think Wiley will be almost impossible to keep off the field. And we have to get Hayes and Pruitt reps, and Popo is imo going to be a solid floor guy. And if Bobby is healthy Hes in same category as Hayes and Pruitt. Maybe even more so. But Honestly I don't see all that much point investing alot in LB if we are keeping Wes. Almost pointless....

Add a NT build who can rotate in on Run Downs for sure. Problem with that is there are usually very limited options for this type of player in the portal. We do NOT need another 3tech type. We need a run stuffer. Otherwise we are good at DT. And we have a **** load of talent at EDGE. Better to invest elsewhere like ensuring we give Beck a top WR from portal.

Assistant TO THE DB coach

Last few classes? Lol I’ll give you 24’ class but miss me with the rest.

OSU, Oregon, Texas, UGA, Bama, etc., have all leveraged the portal to improve their rosters while recruiting at a high level in HS. Kids who don’t like the additions all bounced and they those schools said “bye” because they were upgrading. Miss me with that talk. It’s 2025.
Not at the defensive line position, which is exactly my point in this whole argument. If you want an elite dlineman, you won’t really find a lot of those in the portal. We had 5 stars at that position in our 2023, 2024 and 2025 classes (yes I’m counting Bain as a 5 star). With plenty of other highly ranked guys as well. Why bring a mediocre portal lineman when you have younger talent with higher ceilings already on the roster

Need 1 more playoff-caliber LB and DT from the portal. The young guys will play plenty if they're any good. We're not deep at those spots at all.

Im less worried about LB than i am about the dline

We will need one or two of the young edge rushers to take big steps as pass rushers. Bain/mesidor good, bryant solid, after that who can we rely on?..Interior i like moten, blay is solid but that’s literally it we need to bring in a vet

Scott/blount/jones/lightfoot/pickett/colin all could be good players but can they handle full rotation snaps this year? We shouldn’t be relying on that

They should get snaps but just counting on them this early is the same as leaving question marks at the secondary last year, we’re just hoping the best case scenario happens and it rarely does

Is this @Memnon approved?
1,000% yes.

He's a very smart & talented upcoming Coach.

Played his HS ball at BTW on that State championship team in 2015 & played college at FAMU.

He came up as a GA at Miami, then an analyst & got hired by Rich Rod at Jax ST to CB's Coach.

He's earned his keep & paid his dues, but most importantly he's a smart guy & a very hard worker.

This is the kind of local Miami coach that you keep on staff. Not just some silver-tongue salesman who can only recruit & doesn't actually know jacksh*t about Football.

A guy who can actually teach the position from a technical standpoint & isn't just trying to be friends with the players.

If Etheridge were to leave next season, I'd be perfectly fine with elevating TJ in-house & having him be a full-time on field Coach.

I would think Hetherman will be the LB coach and we will hire S & DL coaches too. This guy was hired as an off field coach, but you know this already.
Everyone has their own opinion on how the defensive staff should be filled out. I’ve heard some say to just let Taylor run the entire D-Line, but I’d prefer to let Taylor work with the DE’s and bring in a proven guy to work with the interior of the line/DT’s. Regarding Hetherman, many are speculating “just let him coach the LB’s”, but I’m just not a fan of this. As BAD as our defense was last year, and the fact that opposing offenses are getting harder to scheme against every year, I’d prefer to just let him focus 100% on calling plays. There’s multiple routes we can go here and everyone has their own ideas and preferences.

I agree with you 1000%, and I’ve been beating this drum for a while now. We’re absolutely loaded at DE and guys who can get after the QB, but what happens when we face the inevitable opponent who decides they’re going to line up and pound the rock all night long? We need a big ole’ lane clogging, run stuffing hoss to lean on in those type of games.

I wish I was where you’re at with Moten and Horton. I just don’t buy the hype with those guys. I’m all for playing the young guns if I knew we had killers starting.

I would be absolutely shocked if the staff doesn’t make moves after spring. DT and LB in particular.
I with you on LB. The DBs will help a ton, but you can't ignore a position group entirely. The LBs are gonna hurt us again.

Our DL and LB’s room are no where near where they need to be going into year 4. Our poor recruiting on the defensive side and evaluations is still hurting us unless Mario hits the portal again.

Agreed. I love the room in some ways but there’s a lot of work to be done

Pruitt has a good chance to start. Man that kid is a savage. Popo I think is better than what we saw last year. Wes maybe with a new coach, BWashs injury really sucks

So we’ve got some pieces I’m optimistic about but there’s still something missing there
