Tennessee DE Deandre Johnson Transfers to Miami

He is edge setter we need that our DE right now are sack specialist
The old saying is play the run on the way to the quarterback. Of course, the first half of that was completely disregarded this season. So hopefully the kid brings some good habits with him, and isn't completely stat/NFL minded. Or maybe there's staff turnover and we get some adequate coaching.

After Rousseau,Phillips and Roche I'm surprised we didn't attract a bigger name for next season with the starting opportunities here.
I'll reserve my final judgment until Rayden closes the portal.

Didn't watch every snap of his career or anything, but he made a strong move on a twist where he split a C/G double, ripped through contact and finished the QB. He's light in the pants, but is similar to Roche. A step less athletic, a bit more stout.

Him and Harvey pair up well. They're not Phillips. But we didn't always get the best of Phillips this year given our play calling. And they are roughly at the talent of Roche. So I think we won't see much actual drop off, if any. Pair that with a very senior DT rotation, the DL should be the same vs. the pass, slightly better vs. the run. Best depth we've had in years.

Win or lose, 2021 will be on the coaches not players. We have enough talent and depth in terms of personnel.

I am intrigued. I'd like to think he can be a nice 10+ TFL, 8 sack guy in our system...I mean, Joe Jackson got there. Either way, nice plug n play player looking to improve their draft stock. Miami has made a living in this area of portal recruiting and has done pretty well with it and I expect it to continue here.

Good replacement for Roche, seems like a similar talent level and style

My guess is he starts opposite of Harvey and rotates with Cam Williams frequently as well. Cam still needs some more strength but had flashes this year

Here's a couple of my old writeups on Johnson. Have always been a big fan, although I thought he would grow more into a DE/DT tweener.

From February 2016:

- Excellent balance and coordination. Plays under control. Was stabbed in his chest at school by his girlfriend but has since recovered. Not a freak athlete but a really good football player.

From December 2016 after Southridge/Deerfield Beach game:

- I'm a DeAndre Johnson (2017) fan. He lived in the backfield and rocked Nick Holm on several occasions. I would like us to keep Johnson on the radar at DT. He's better than Tyreic Martin and we need depth.
what in the ******* miami. his highschool gf stabbed him in the chest? jesus

JJ was a much better talent.Roche came in as a sack master and only had a handful this year.

He’s a better player than Roche because this kid will set the edge properly.

I’m saying it’s ridiculous we again need a transfer because our defensive staff of 5 years can’t recruit or develop proper depth at any position on D. Can I safely assume that transfers will be our best plAyers next year too?

Georgia just took a portal QB and started our scraps at wide receiver last year.

Wake up, it’s 2021 the portal is a way to shape a roster, not an indictment.

Hope you're right, and would seem physically capable. Depends on coaching and the individual's mindset. What if he's coming to put up #'s to get to the league? What if that was the staphs selling point?

He's a little bit below Roche. I would say he's a Johnathan Garvin level of talent
