Taylor Bartons (Aaron Rogers old tutor) take on Heaps

Hope he opens some eyes and shuts some mouths. Only means great things for the program.

This. Whoever gives us the best chance to win NOW needs to play, I don't care who that is. That should be the only factor that matters.

I want to beat Florida State.

This is a huge win for us. I don't know how it could be construed otherwise. Golden's got no loyalty to the kid so the only way he sees the field is if he is the best QB for the job. This team is in win now mode, Golden doesn't have the security to throw Olsen or Kaaya out there and be willing to take their lumps. We don't lose a ton of numbers after this year but we will be losing quite a few playmakers. This is the year we can get to 10 wins and have some real progress to sell recruits on. Williams was a blow but i think Heaps, if nothing else, will be a very helpful presence to the unit. I think a kid like Olsen or Kaaya or Rosier seeing Heaps prepare like a grown man, knowing that he is direct competition, will further step it up a notch.

This might let us RS Kaaya. I don't think Olsen will be in the program for the long term. He is not an elite physical specimen, nor does he have an elite arm, and he hasn't shown the moxie everybody talked about. I question the work ethic and that doesn't usually just show up. I honestly might even prefer Rosier as a prospect. Redshirting the guys from the 2014 and buying them one year to get truly ready would be beneficial and between Heaps, Olsen, and potentially Williams, I think we can get out of this alive.

For those saying there's no downside, let me say this... What if he gets the starting job through summer practices, but just isn't good during the games. I really doubt Golden pulls him once he names him starter, unless it's for Ryan Williams. I mean he didn't pull Stephen Morris when he was playing like total crap.
Personally I hope we redshirt Kaaya/Rosier and Kevin Olsen EARNS the starting job, and maybe Williams becomes starter when he returns...

I'll play devil's advocate here and point out that maybe, just maybe, a few years ago, Baylor fans were in this similar situation...talking about how Kirby Freeman should come in and start right way ("he played QB at Miami!"), and that Robert Griffin III just wouldn't be ready ("Too young/inexperienced, not enough time to win the job").

Look how that turned out. Heaps might be our Captain One-completion, and one of the Freshmen might be our RGIII.

Hearps could be one of those players that will go virtually unnoticed, just sitting there under the surface, and will break out when you least expect it.

With this move a starter will not be named until the final scrimmage. I think Olsen prevails, but this move to add competition is a good one. Let them compete!
