For the last 20 years and save for a couple exceptions, I’ve seen talented freshmen/underclassmen come into this program only to get squandered.

Some stagnate and manage productive albeit not the careers we hoped for while others regress to oblivion and a couple who had off the field issues derail them.

Where will we be a year or two years from now?

Will we be wondering what happened to OJ Frederique?

Will Rueben Bain ever get back to the monster he was his freshman year?

I’ve enjoyed this season but it’s Groundhog Day U with development issues until proven otherwise.

It’s mind boggling.

Mallory flashed? We knew he was going to be good but he didn't really play. Brevin locked that down.

Jarren Williams flashed? He doesn't even get on the field other than Savannah St. where he handed the ball off.

Zion Nelson flashed? He started but he was the opposite of flashing. He didn't look competent 1 play his freshman year.

Did Storm see the field other than a KR?

I feel like your list could be much shorter for the point you're trying to make. Looks like you just padded the list with players who were once freshman...

Sam Brooks... Like there's a difference between flashing and people just wishing someone else was on the field.

You may as well say Kyle Wright flashed as a freshman. I think he got in against GT before he got stung by a bee.

Sophomore slump is a common thing. Ruben got hurt and gets a bit of a pass. Next year he'll have plenty of pressure to perform. If he doesn't we'll call him a bust. For now he's doing fine.

Duke... I mean, he was as advertised.

I'm sorry. I just don't know why this thread exists.

I think we need to consider what people think flashing is, a guy could come down and make a easy tackle and people will say he flashed.

Consistency > Flash

We usually fall in love with anything new when you are mediocre because its a sign of hope. We have to raise our knowledge of the game, take the emotions out of it, that will raise your standards and you will see things for what they are not what you want it to be

Ah yes “duhvelopment” the 2024 buzzword and most over used and over hyped phrase on this board.

The reality is many of those kids didn’t have the mental fortitude to push forward and succeed in college without having a really strong culture of accountability, hardwork and extra work.

They played on bad teams, with bad morale and bad schemes for their specific skill set. Or played in positions where they had low ceilings.

This lead to a lazy approach on and off the field. Many got distracted and the rest is history.

This board obsesses over this stuff cuz again they hate the coach hire and when they run out critics they find new buzzwords instead of just saying they hate the coach (and probably the team deep down)

Some of it can be contributed to coaching, S & C, overall culture. But at some point the kids themselves need to be held accountable. Are they watching enough film ? Getting extra work away from practice ? Eating/hydrating properly ? I imagine with that list posted lots of that talent pool couldn't answer yes to these questions. Blaming coaches can become a bit too much low hanging fruit at times.

Half this list is guys who never “flashed” the other half are guys who got better and had good careers here.

That and Kiko Mouigoa who somehow “flashed” as a freshman here despite not being on our team.

OP was so desperate to make a point, he just made up a list of guys to make it seem like this is an actual issue.

I mean Duke Johnson? The all time leading rusher in UM history despite only playing here for three seasons? He flashed as a freshman and just fell off, huh?

Dear OP

We are currently 9-1 and ranked #8 in the poll that matters, projected to make the playoff. Our QB is a bona fide Heisman candidate. Our slot WR is breaking records. Our offense as a whole is incredible. We are nationally relevant in mid/late November. We are putting up top ten recruiting classes annually. All signs are trending the right way. Yet, despite all this, you make a dumb post where you tried to make a point that got lost in your list of 150 former players that diluted the message you were trying to make and you ended it with “Groundhog Day U with development issues until proven otherwise.”

How much more do you need to see to be proven otherwise? A natty? Nah, not enough. Three nattys? Nah, not unless they’re consecutive. People like you will never be satisfied. Ever. I haven’t heard this much unwarranted b!tching since the last time I heard my unemployed sisters in law cackling about the economy and inflation. Here’s a thought - go see your doctor and ask for help with your low T situation. If that doesn’t pan out, just continue along your current path to transitioning to a woman. Clearly you’ve got the hormones headed the right way.

What happened to Sam Brooks

Bain is working his way back from injury… people really don’t get that. It’s insane to expect him to play at an elite level while he’s hampered. Get a grip, the guy is a stud. Looking forward to seeing him round into form in the home stretch
I agree but was hoping by now it would look more dominant because I do believe he is a dominant player. He should drop some weight this offseason though. (But so should I tbh)

I was thinking the same. This list is inflated.

There used to be a popular VHS/DVD advertised late night that thrived on this exact same topic

All of this mental gymnastics just for them to say “I don’t like a coach and never will. And I hope they fail so I can be right about something.”

Mario recruits well “that’s all he does good”

Mario wins on the field “it’s because of Cam Ward (who he recruited.)”

Now we still winning it’s “well next year won’t be as good cuz he hasn’t developed the recruits he got (who half the ones in question have been on campus for 4-5 months.)”
