Take 2… (another Mario isn't the guy thread, with some Lane isn't it either sprinkled in)

Few years ago I called the hiring of Manny political ode to the community of SFLA insiders. As a alum I Knew right after the UF game he’d fizzle. Signs were apparent.

Now here we are. To quickly summarize:

If Miami wants to be MIAMI, hiring Cristobal will offer nothing more than turning Miami into a bling out version of UGA during Richt years. (Specifically 2003-2011).

You’ll have some great prospects roll through and a few games per season and during postseason that scream we are back but we’ll never reach that pinnacle and it’ll end in Mario either bolting prematurely (like he always has in his past) or being forced out due to it going stale.

Only example we needed to see regarding Mario being the guy is the fact that in two classes he has had GENERATIONAL players at QB/DE (two most important positions on the field) in Herbert & Kayvon along with a elite guy in Justin Flowe and Oregon has wet the bed losing by 30+ when it came time to push the money to the middle and go to the bank (being the CFB). And he didn’t wet the bed in the Sec or even a Clemson pumped ACC but rather a watered down and dry Pac-12 that is suffering with USC being basically a Westcoast version of us and no Clemson around.

Cristobal understands our past at least: And that’s wonderful but he won’t be the guy to deliver what we want. He never has in his past, and he never will. Herbert was held back by his offensive coaching and I also think Thidobeaux/Oregon was this year as well.

Regarding Lane, his past also speaks to what he seeks, a quick bridge back to the NFL. He won’t hang around long enough to see through the VAST reclamation Miami needs. Though I do trust his ABILITY to maximize our QB versus Mario. I have no doubt TVD would become a top 10 pick with Lane and be maxed out. But I also believe his past shows he will neglect all the little needed aspects of football to win big and Miami will also be nothing more than a high flying Off/team that is violate and gets spanked by the tougher/disciplined forces of FSU/Clem in years we shouldn’t.

I don’t know who we should pursue or whether the guy we need even exists. I think the answer is not easy nor is the path. We literally are attempting a HALFCOURT shot to send the game into OT or hoping someone fouls on the closeout.

Two candidates Id risk it on:

Clem OC Tony Elliot

Cinn HC Luke Fickell (not a chance he comes here.)

ah the standard "i told you so" thread.

love seeing these every three or so years when we go through another coaching turnover

That is kind of not fair. Those of us in the "told you so" club just don't jump on the board very often to give our bummed out opinion when there is a change. I've been not publicly b*tching since Coker. Every year it's the same thing...go cheap and hope for the best. I personally don't think Mario or Lane is the dynasty answer we are looking for, but more of a Richt vibe to advance the program a bit more. Even if you get your guy, it will be a told you so moment for you as well.

I think that Mario will take us to new heights but we will need a HC that will take us over the top. We will need what GA needed with Smart.

Why not mention Mark Stoops? He is very qualified. Or is it Mario/Lane or bust?

So fold the program, OP?!?!

Or should we keep Manny??

Where is your sense of adventure. Come on?!?! You’re on a college football board. At least offer up your ideal candidate.

They are both proven in different capacities as head coaches at this point. We will not get one that is higher on the list of proven coaches than one of those two. So the alternative is take a shot on some g5 coach or something. Not sure we have the patience for that again yet.

We need 10 win+ seasons bad, and I feel good about achieving that with either guy. Then hope the collective factors of local talent and renewed institutional and donor support are enough for them to each reach a new high. Saban isn't coming, Sweeney isn't coming, Jimbo isn't coming, we don't want mack brown or orgeron. So a proven champion head coach is off the table.

I’ll first start by saying I agree completely with you on Mario. I do however disagree with your thoughts on Lane. Lane is a great offensive mind but his father is a defensive legend. Ole Miss doesn’t ply bad defense and has statistically been better the longer Lane has been there. Would Lane leave for an NFL gig? Yeah probably if the money wasn’t offered on our end to retain him. If that’s the case though it’s because we are winning at a high level. If I’m taking my chances on either Lane or Mario, it’s Lane every time.

Also the FSU/Clemson mention was a terrible troll. Try harder next time!

I remember Shannon's intro speech. I remember Golden's intro speech. I remember Manny's intro speech. Everyone knew everything about Miami. The city, the high schools, the history, the alumni, the NFL legends. They all talked about the standards. They all talked about the commitment and what it would take. The hard work. the vision. that is was their 'dream job...." No head coaching experience, minimal pro experience. Sub par results. I could care less about a Miami connection.

I don't even want a college guy. I want a pro coach that wants to be here 4-5 then bolts for the NFL. Doug Pedersen is available. We should at least reach out. Dude has a Super Bowl ring. Why should we overpay for a college coach when we can afford a pro coach and the staff he would put together?

Much easier to say we're gonna fail with Mario/Lane and not offer an alternative candidate vs sacking up and making an actual suggestion with any conviction

I’m so tired of the back and forth over Mario and Lane …. Are bother better than manny ? yes , will both push us to the direction we need to be ? Yes so stop complaining Jesus! Just sit back and hope we get one or the other and let’s see them transform this program back to where it needs to be .
