T-Rob and DVD appreciation post!

From 247:

If the recruiting rankings hold through the end of the cycle (and that can be a big if because rankings always shift), this could be the best recruiting class the Hurricanes have ever signed in the modern era on paper.

Dating back to the past 20 cycles, the Hurricanes have not signed multiple Top 100 cornerback prospects in the same cycle.

It took the duo of Van Dyke and Robinson just one cycle to change that.

The art of closing is a necessary skill when it comes to talent acquisition via high end high school talent.

So what is different with cornerback recruiting besides the new position coaches in Van Dyke and Robinson?

One key difference worth noting is the location of the targets that have committed with Rogers hailing from Mississippi and Fegans coming from Alabama.

Miami is not gaining a strong footing with the top corners in South Florida in this 2022 cycle either with Jacolby Spells committing to West Virginia over Miami and with legacy prospect Earl Little Jr. trending to Alabama.

The Hurricanes didn’t stand pat with only pursuing the top cornerback targets in South Florida this cycle. Van Dyke and Robinson did a nice job of casting a wide net with putting together their board.

This development is nothing to overlook because it could be a breakthrough moment in UM recruiting moving forward because the message is pretty clear: Miami would love to keep the top talent in South Florida home, but if that local talent isn’t as interested in UM as top out of state talent, the Hurricanes are going to take that out of state talent.

In recruiting, talent is the bottom line, and UM added two out of state corners in Fegans and Rogers that are just as talented as any cornerback in South Florida.
This is great but color my skeptical that UM didn’t land Spells, who chose WVU (living and playing in Morgantown, WV) over UM. Little maybe a different story but I am very confident that the coaches chose these 3 corners over Spells and were honest with Spells as to where he stood. Which is the right thing to do for the young man and the long term relationship with his high school and coaches.
In the end it works out for all parties but to write that the local talent wasn’t as interested in UM is probably an overstatement

Can they croot LBs?
No but we lost the guy who could right after he joined the staff.
Don’t expect Manny to sit tight and not demand high level recruiting from the LB coaches or he will “reassign” them as he did with Rumph and Baker. Manny is building this high rise one floor at a time, but in T-Rob and DVD, Likens, Simpson, Lashlee, Hickson, arguably Justice we have a pretty good foundation. Now we need to build the upper floors.
Patke is probably on the clock. Aristide will get a pass because of the circumstances but that won’t last long.

that's the party line on Spells.... What can they really say. Maybe more will come out after signing day as a "back story"...

That's 247 team rankings

Yep; u’re right. The link I posted just showed him committed, but the ranking wasn’t updated.

But, we’re for sure climbing. As I said in an earlier post, just let it all play out. The DB is the least of my worries. I stand by what I said, we have a successful season and I see us w/ a top 7 class in the nation. But, if this season goes to ****, so will this class, especially since we have so many out of staters.

Thid isn't a Surprise. I'll say it again anybody who's a vet in this knew T-Rob was a monster and that DBs would flock to him. Funny thing is I'm chilling because I expected this and I still think we haven't gotten the final piece at CB yet
