T.Howard article on 24/7

It's very difficult to run Seattle's defense in College. You know who'd agree with me? Pete Carroll, who moved away from some of the things they do in Seattle while he was at USC (with pretty darn good talent available). Maybe we'll adjust, too.

This will turn into a ridiculous thread now. So, proceed.

THIS! THIS! THIS! We might run what Seattle is running and thats the problem, because PETE HIMSELF wouldnt run what he is running in the pros as-is in college. EVEN when he could **** near scour any end of the country and lure them to southern Cal, and he won a TON of recruiting battles to show for it. He could get any dlineman and he said it himself he couldn't, so he didnt try and he adjusted his scheme at the college level! The Dlineman bodies, no matter how talented werent mature enough to hold the point of attack. So instead he set those dogs loose, with great results, even when he had rivers, maulaluga, and matthews and they put up a defense for the ages.

When Pete got back to the NFL he went back to his original defense with some added wrinkles

Thing is, who on the d-line should we have "set loose" last year? It's not like Robinson, Renfrow and Porter were capable of terrorizing backfields. I think the coaching staff was trying to make due with what they had. If they could get a guy like Renfrow to occupy two blockers and free up a linebacker, that was a win. Of course, that didn't work out well either. But I don't think the alternative last year was any more enticing.

I disagree. Robinson was definitely capable of penetrating. He flashed in the BC game in 2012.

Also, he's the DT our coaches chose to play on third down in passing situations. If wasn't capable of making plays behind the LOS I doubt our coaches would have made him part of our pass rush package.

I don't see anything wrong with they way golden is doing, is it good for short term results? No. But long term success >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> short term results .. any day.

That's the problem with constantly landing 3 star talent (or less)

They aren't that good, and if they do play well, it's not consistent.

I can't believe a kid who is on the team didn't bad mouth his coach.

We are to reject the opinion of ex-Canes who have had Pro Bowl, Hall of Fame, multi-year NFL careers, but accept the one of the kid who is currently playing under said coach.

I'm in.

I don't want to get into a chicken and the egg debate about whether he lacked talent or the coaching ruined him, but I am not expecting to see him play on Sundays...

well at one time there was a poster that said, tracey, duke and some others were transferring due to coaches being ********..cant quite remember the whole post..

He's right about one thing. The defnese as a whole is nothing new....the problem is the two guys trying to implement it.

The ex canes that spoke i could care less about what they say less talking more giving back to the program clowns

We might run some os the same coverages as seattle but our front 7 is not doing the same as theirs. They would use red bryant as the only d-lineman 2 gapping . Pete carroll said he doesnt like read and react because it takes the aggrissivness out of the d-line and you see chick and those guys stand up and catch blocks rather then firing off the ball. All in all seattle is way more aggressive.

Dude went from transfer, and anti Ono rumors his 1st year. To being the voice of reason, for this abomination of a defense.

Instead of insulting the kids maturity level, why don't you do some research. Coaches are only allowed to work with the athletes for 20 hours a week tops. That is why complex schemes can't be run in the college level vs pros. And if the kids are'nt talented enough or don't trust each other, than the losses pile up.

we've had great defense with the same 20 hour rule so that's not an excuse. either the coaches aren't good enough or the talent level isn't. either way its the coaches job to acquire talent and coach it up. defense has to dramatically improve or heads should roll
