Here's why it might make sense: desperate necessity.

The thing is, I think it is a great move to get him, but it does not address the immediate need for next year. He still needs time to Develop which is why he is out at usc becuse he was going to be passed by a transfer and maybe the dude we saw the other day light it up but wants to be the guy now it seems

Some guys hit right away and some need some development and he’s in the second category despite his ranking last year.

Mario has made a number of bad decisions in his tenure here.

-Gattis
-Steele
-Giving TVD a bag to stay when he flirted with Bama
-Whiffing on Ward, Howard, Jefferson, etc.

It’s a disaster and is a terrible sign for year 3.

Biggest problem I see is that there's a perception that Mario is a QB killer/poor developer. And quite frankly theres strong evidence for that perception.

- Hiring of Gattis which led to poor QB numbers
- Hiring of Dawson which has been mixed at best and led to TVD leaving after an up and down season running this offense
- JB who has been in our program now for quite some time has not been developed

That's just at Miami, Oregon has their own stories of him as well. Until Mario looks in the mirror and realizes he needs to stop tinkering with the offense/qb's hire someone who has full autonomy this will continue to occur.
