I was re-watching one of Golden's interviews from ACC media day and something that stood out was a comment he made about our style of play last season. He was discussing the defense and how he chose to go with an uptempo offense before the year began. A lot of people that knew him told him that it didn't even look like one of his teams. He expected to get things back to the way he prefers to do things, and this year would more closely resemble an Al Golden team thanks to a defense with added experience, depth, and strength.

I'm expecting less no huddle stuff, and more two tight end formations and a heavier emphasis on the run game. More of a traditional offense that works off the run instead of appearing to constantly be in a two minute drill. Augustus Edwards or Danny Dillard emerging will be huge for this, but I personally believe you're gonna see that pro style of offense we've known at Miami.

Chop it up with me plaYAS.

We should start seeing a more ground and pound to open up the air attack clock control pro-style offense this season. I think we'll still see hurry up when needed if we have the correct mismatches to take advantage of.

I'm confident with the O under Coach Coley and Stevie MO. We will score whichever O we flow with. It's the D that has me primed brother...the D is what I am seriously looking to get better.

I expect every game this year to go something like this on offense:

The quick snaps was something I didn't understand.Use some play clock, geesh.Jedd did nothing to protect our young defense.

I remember Golden last year referred on hurricane hotline to the offense as "tempro".. where we could go with a quick tempo and still operate a pro style offense. I guess this was to give it an identity to sell to recruits or whatever.

Recently I have heard Coley use the same word of "tempro" style offense, but also emphasize that we could go fast or slow, I would think we will try to handle clock a little better at certain points. We seemed to struggle with the four minute style offense last year where we have to take the air out of the ball, I think UVA and NCST come to mind. Will be very interesting to see, I still think we will have no huddle aspects incorporated into our O, and I hope we keep it, Gives us an exciting brand of offense and the recruits love it

I'd find a way to run something as fast as Chip Kelly did at Oregon.
When you have thoroughbreds you don't keep them locked in the corral.

I'm thinking our defense will be bringing the pain this year. Ball control is nice to give the defense a break and to sapp the spirit of the opponents, but nothing demoralizes a team more than having points scored against you in bunches.

As for milking the clock. Under Shannon it seemed like Jacory would get under center with less than 10 seconds seemingly every play.
We don't see that with Golden. Very few, if any, delay of game penalties.

Yeah I remember when he said it.

I really liked our offense under Fisch in 2011. We made a commitment to the run even when it wasn't working that well. But we smashed a couple teams, including Virginia Tech in the 2nd half. We were tossing them around like ragdolls.

I wasn't crazy about last year's fast break style because Morris wasn't efficient enough to sustain drives, and our running game really suffered against more physical teams.

I'll never forget that Golden said he wanted a "powerful" team. I think he wants a team that can maul teams at the point of attack on both sides of the ball, but we weren't equipped to do it. I think we're starting to get there.

I agree that we'll see a more balanced formation so to speak but I still expect to the staff to let morris open it up. In my opinion this team as it stands isnt built to be ground in pound like previously mentioned. Yes we have a massive offensive line with experience, but our offense is full of playmakers who are electric in open space and until dillard or edwards proves us otherwise, we don't really have any big backs that can take a major pounding. So if coley spreads the field and throws a lot of misdirection and new looks at the defense, then our players will be able to utilize their speed and elusiveness, I think it may be limited if we strictly runn I-formation and two tight end sets. 196 is great for duke but why crowd the box and limit his ability. I think we will run it more as golden has mentioned duke will get more touches but I look for this to be a huge year for our receivers

What Golden was referring too WTF was that our defense looked even more pathetic then it really was bc he wanted the offense to always go uptemp regardless of how the game is going and without regard for the defense. Which only meant that the defense kept having to get back on the field after only short breaks, regardless if the offense scored or punted, all the time.

This season I think he is going to be more strategic since he should be able to trust the defense a lot more.

What about Mo Hagens? He looks like he's ready to pound the rock when called upon. Despite what our fans think Duke, Clements and Crawford can pound the rock between the tackles. We may have the biggest O-line in CFB this year. Pound the rock down our opponents throats. We have the horses to have an effective running game this year.

I don't think anyone really knows what to expect, and that is good because UF won't know what to expect.

Speaking of UF, where did that Gator fan "IHATETHISPLACE" vanish to on here? Morrison got suspended, Driskel had his surgery, Jones is out with violent STD's, and Haplea tore his ****** muscle and I haven't seen this dude around anymore?

yeah I forgot about mo, and you're right that I think we could have success doing that. In my opinion, I think a run first-pass second team should be our identity next year, working in a true freshman at qb (Olsen)or possibly ryan williams. I think now though with an improved defense in terms of experience and conditioning, we don't have to worry about keeping them on the field as much because they'll be better suited so we can keep a high tempo offense going. I'm not saying lets be Texas Tech and air it out, I think we should be balanced (which is what most people are saying on here anyways, just throwing my thoughts on it). Dukes weight gain will help him in between the trenches especially with mo hagens adding 10 pounds as well. Running in the spread or shotgun sets will allow duke open space and one move = him in the secondary. This also allows for easier hurry and more options for morris on the field at one time. Basically what I'm saying is I also hope we run a lot more , I just hope we keep the spread/up-tempo offense (to some extent) that way we are not negating any of our playmakers talents and the option for morris to shred the weak secondaries of the ACC.

It used to just **** me off when we'd be running and tearing out great chunks of yardage, and then out of nowhere, we'd start throwing and missing, and lose a frikkin' game.

If the opponent is vulnerable to the run, cram it down their throats and wear their asses out.

Last I heard, even with two tight ends, where most folks would anticipate a run, rumor has it you can still throw. Especially if you have the speed and quickness, and your opponent doesn't.

I think it will be pro style but i believe you will see alot of everything. Ag wants to run the ball but with all wr depth they will have to use the spread to keep those guys happy and also think we are going to see that ne patriots type offense with multiple tight ends with our depth there and coley is always watching film of the patriots.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

It's just very telling is all.

With the weapons we have at the skill positions I'd like to see them continue to use the no huddle liberally and use 3 and four WR's a lot. Force the defense to have to cover all those weapons play after play.
