Strengths of the team

I wasnt surprised to see that he thinks the QB and OL are our strengths but the LB I was kinda surprised about. I thought maybe the Kicker was the third strength! LOL

Agree with 58- I'm actually encouraged by the LB potential because Gaines isn't a starter, we knew what he would bring (good effort, knows where to go but is never there on time to make a difference). I was thinking the OL was a strength as well, but D$'s post reminding us of the lack of experience made me hedge my bet on them.

I really like our offensive line. I know they don't have a lot of starts and 0 starts together but I do think we have a great line. I guess we will find out in a few days. I can't wait!

Problem is our OL can look good agaisnt our DL in practice. We've heard this all too often. I am not a Keheo fan so I am rightly skeptical of his unit. He's been an under-performer as coach for too long IMO. His 5 best theory has been proven to be a failed one.
He needs to recruit, develope and coach up a legit 2 deep across the board. That way when the RG goes down, we don't play musical chairs to replace one spot. That unit needs cohesion. Having kids jump all over the place in his "gotta get the 5 best" out there mantra is insane. Having kids prepared to play more than 1 position is ok. But Chris Myers was the last time we were able to move a player all across the line and have that kid perform well. Brandon Washington is the latest examples of moving a player who was playing very well at one spot, to cover another position due to injury. The whole line became weaker from this theory.

I love our running backs. I think James is going to blow up this year, Clements is almost forgotten but was a big time player for us last year as a jack of all trades in the second half, and Duke is exciting.

I certainly hope he's correct about the OL because they will set the tone of how well we do as an offense. I've been one of the most vocal to criticize the hiring of Kehoe so I hope he proves me wrong in my opinion of him.

Collectively, I actually like our WR and TE group.

As for the TEs, they are the biggest TE unit we've ever hard here...on paper. Hopefully they are physical enough so that the edges are controlled by them in the running game. Those are some big dudes.

WRs: Really like the talent, but it's young. I think next year is the year for this group, but I'm hopeful they'll show flashes this year.

I feel the same way about LBs - young talent is there....next year is the year for them but I think they'll show flashes. My concern is that it's not a physical group and might wear down against big(ger) teams.

OL is obviously a strength.

Offensive line isn't a strength yet.

All talented players...all look the part and the talent to be the part. However, the unit lacks starts as a unit and until that number rises, you will see some inconsistency from the group.

Ah, yes, the Kehoe Shuffle!!!

The Kehoe shuffle might be the biggest problem with the OL, as I'm curious to how long a unit can get continuous starts at the same position with Kehoe coaching the line.

The OL, more than any other unit needs a "next man up" mentality...you can't be moving guards to tackle and tackles to guard...it throws the whole line off. In college football, OL/DL depth and talent is one of the most important keys to victory. It is why the SEC dominates at a national level. Their defensive lines are big, talented, fast, and they go 3 deep at each position...no other conference in the country can keep up with those waves of talent coming at your offensive line fresh.

I think OL, RB, QB is a strength. WR's and TE's I have a wait and see attitude - Lot's of talent, but haven't seen enough on the field to feel they're a "strength" yet.

DB's and LB's should be improved. DL - just stay healthy and play decent, I'm not expecting much from this group as a whole (outside of Chick). Very thin and very young.

I totally agree with the OL needing cohesion, I'm hoping we don't see the shuffle if someone gets hurt this year. That said I doubt mind backups being able to fill multiple positions.
