Off-Topic Stock Market & Crypto Discussion

You have heard me on this topic before. The core issues are: folks dont want to live in cold climates/high tax states/anti business states, and we have chronically underbuilt residential housing ever since the Great Recession. Since those two megatrends arent changing any time soon.......

On a related topic, most Class B and higher rental buildings in the sun belt are running in the upper 90's in occupancy, which is why rents have risen so much, there is no place to move to. The reason for the run on houses is that builders for many years have built studios and 1-2 bedroom apts. So if someone has a large family and doesnt want to buy, they are forced to either rent two apartments or rent a house.
Remote working has helped fuel it but also SO many companies either moved their headquarters or are building second campuses in the city. Apple in Austin and Amazon HQ2 got the headlines but Microsoft bought 90 acres to build a campus. Airbnb, Visa, Google, Norfolk Southern and others have done the same.

I agree on remote working, but what that did is accelerate long term mega trends. I have a client in Cali who moved to Nevada to work remotely during the pandemic and refuses to go back. BTW, the scuttlebutt in Austin is that more Cali companies will be moving there to escape the 13.3%. That might be the single most overheated market in the country (Miami?).

Downtown Atlanta is also undergoing a renaissance, jump started by the new Google headquarters. The huge rental residential complex across from their HQ recently changed hands, as did the American Hotel.

I know a lot of business owners moving to Nevada, but their businesses are still in California. And who the **** wants to hire in a state that is taking away woman’s rights. That’s 50% of their workforce. I believe California has a budget surplus.

You are confusing economic with social issues. Should our companies not sell/operate in Muslim countries that ban abortion?

If Boards of companies truly took their fiduciary responsibilities to heart, they would move the company to a lower tax state. Tesla is now a Texas company and so is Elon. If he sold say $10BB of stock with near zero cost basis, he saved himself $1.33BB in Cali taxes. That is a huge loss for Cali, and many others have done the same (Ellison comes to mind). Same is happening with NY, NJ, CT., etc. In Florida, its near impossible to get the attention of an upper end tax/estate planner, they are so busy already.

Also, most states have large budget surpluses because the Fed gave them billions and billions in Covid funds. That has gone away.

Businesses are treading in dangerous waters when they get all political.

Over 10 billion came from Elon alone.

I agree - whatever your position is on global warming/climate change, etc. etc., ECONOMICALLY and NATIONAL SECURITY wise, we have to drill, drill, drill. As I wrote above, working on alternative fuels can continue or even accelerate concurrently with that drilling.
Biden really made a big mistake with his energy policy. He's listened to bad advice.

Not just algos all stables have struggled. Tether has de-pegged big too, etc. I think Terra was close. They may get there. But you know what really sucks? When 3rd party freezes your coins and they "de-peg" to zero. Forever. This has to be solved. We need this. We need decentralized money.
I was on a cruise for a week and didn't know any of this was going on. I hope you're ok!

I got hammered. I bought a lot very, very low as you know, and have been taking some off the table here and there, especially in the three figures. But I definitely lost some manor paper gains. Ce la vie.

As bad as the money, I really, really believed in the mission. I thought, and still think its important. Decentralized money. Think about people in Venezuela, Russia, the middle east, even Argentina where they've had massive devaluations. Where the government seizes your bank accounts because you protested something, or made an artistic statement. And the tech... my god. Some of the protocols were stunning. Next level UI/UX. One of the greatest collection of builders that has ever been assembled. I can't wait to see what some of these people do next.

"Let me tell you little story about a man named Jed..."

Tennessee Jed? He's a buddy.

Cold iron shackles, ball and chain
Listen to the whistle of the evenin' train
You know you bound to wind up dead
If you don't head back to Tennessee Jed
Rich man step on my poor head
When you get back you better butter my bread
Well, do you know it's like I said
You better head back to Tennessee Jed
Tennessee, Tennessee, there ain't no place I'd rather be
Baby won't you carry me back to Tennessee
Drink all day and rock all night
The law come to get you if you don't walk right
Got a letter this morning, baby all it read
You better head back to Tennessee Jed
I dropped four flights and cracked my spine
Honey, come quick with the iodine
Catch a few winks, baby, under the bed
Then you head back to Tennessee Jed
Tennessee, Tennessee, there ain't no place I'd rather be
Baby won't you carry me back to Tennessee
I run into Charlie Fog
Blacked my eye and he kicked my dog
My doggie turned to me and he said
Let's head back to Tennessee Jed
I woke up a felin' mean
Went down to play the slot machine
The wheels turned around, and the letters read
You better head back to Tennessee Jed
Tennessee, Tennessee, there ain't no place I'd rather be
Baby won't you carry me back to Tennessee

You are not realizing that social issues can become economic issues. Lower taxes also come with lower/weaker services. Texas infrastructure is a mess.
I could add gov. Abbot and Ted Cruz, but I won’t.

Social issues are the governments purview, not private companies, whose main objective is to maximize shareholder value. For example, Amazon has announced that despite being in the process of laying off thousands of employees, they will be paying up to $4,000 for employees to fly out of state for abortions. They are going to get sued by shareholders, and they will lose.
