Stephen Morris 40 time

I don't understand why people would be surprised that Morris has speed. He showed it a lot more in his first 2 years, and seems like he wanted to become a pure pocket QB later on. The most frustrating thing about JH and Morris to me were that both had decent speed and often had open field to run, but neither would take advantage. They limited themselves being afraid to run it.

Normally I hate run first qb's (it's why I always hated Mike Vick as a qb) but I equally can't stand when a QB ignores his potential to make something happen by not running.

I think people underestimate how much injuries impacted his development and psyche.

Well he's fully healthy and still missing receivers - feel sorry for any of the guys that had to catch a pass from him today.

would have been nice if he would have used that speed to get to the sticks instead of SCAMPERING OUT OF BOUNDS A YARD SHORT ON THIRD DOWNS!

Did you guys see that Stephen Morris ran .01 second slower in the 40yd dash than johnny football. pretty impressive and nobody would think it looking at game tape.

What do you guys think?

He has straight line speed but when he runs in game it's not fluid and he's not very agile

He can run a 4.0 and it won't matter if he throws the ball up for grabs every time he gets pressured...

Morris mostly uses his speed to run out of bounds well short of the sticks on 3rd down.

You do remember he played pretty much the whole season with a blown tire?

I know for a fact that during the bowl game vs the Cards (after he had an entire month to heal and was supposedly 100%) he ran his beetch arsse out of bounds well before the chains when there was nothing but green grass in front of him.

So take that bumpski shizszz somewhere else.

The QB and the HC's future are tied together. Whatever Steven was or wasn't, Al better get the next pick right. He was 3 or 4 of his own of HIS own QBs to pick from and whoever he picks will determine if he stays a HC at major D1 school. Next QB makes or breaks us.

I am really curious what Morris will score on the Wonderlic test. This guy had athleticism but clearly did not know about any of it.

So Johnny runs 4.68====Means Morris runs 4.69=====Clowney runs 4.47----Means I'm taking Clowney for QB?

I am not all about the 40 time for a quarterback. It's about being to avoid the pass rush, scramble around, and make plays. This is something that Morris did not impress me with.

Wonderlic will not have a darn thing to do with it. Having feel within the pocket is an intuitive characteristic. I've seen a lot of smart and athletic kids get tunnel vision under pressure. I'll guess that Stephen interviews very well.

Overview

Second quarterback in school history with multiple 3,000-yard seasons. 2013: Third-team All-ACC pick after starting all 13 games. 2012: Started all 12 games, an set a school record with 3,415 yards of total offense, eclipsing a mark previously set by Bernie Kosar (3,412) in 1984. 2011: Played in five games and starting one. 2010: Played in six game and started the final four.
Analysis
Strengths
Very good arm strength and athletic ability. Can move around the pocket and buy a second chance. Throws with velocity and can rifle the ball into tight spots. Can drill back-shoulder throws. Can adapt his arm and throwing platform and release it from a variety of angles under duress with ease. Has natural leadership traits.
Weaknesses
Average overall size with a relatively thin build. Sporadic accuracy. Sprays the ball and struggles to hit receivers in stride (best with stationary targets). Does not throw his receivers open. Marginal timing, anticipation and rhythm. Struggles to handle pressure and presses to create plays -- eyes drop to the rush very quickly and vacates the pocket prematurely. Makes too many head-scratching decisions. Birddogs his primary target and will force the ball. Career 57.7 completion percentage is indicative of accuracy at all layers even with a clean pocket. Makes his receivers consistently work for the ball.
Bottom Line
Will tease evaluators with his arm and athletic talent, but has yet to prove he can throw with the precision needed to sustain a starting job in the pros. Has clear starting-caliber traits, but is still learning what it takes to direct an offense and make good decisions and is still very much a work in progress. Has talent worth molding in a backup role and will pique the interest of QB coaches who work him out in the spring and view his raw tools. Will require a strong offensive line and a full supporting cast of weapons to function in a starting role.

I personally have no barometer of his actual in-game speed as the only memory I have of the kid is him running out of bounds late against Dook opting for self preservation over a crucial first down. His ankle cancer must have hindered his ability/desire to take a hit to save the season. No ill wishes to the kid but I'm not going to be on pins and needles during the draft waiting to high five people if he gets taken late.

He did fine at it last year and had a bum leg most of this year. I wonder if that had any impact....

With that said, one of the biggest differences between this year and last year was his confidence. There is a reason everyone hyped him up. He played good, not great last year, but he showed poise and good pocket maneuverability with the big arm. He has speed, but unfortunately rarely uses it.

This year, he never looked comfortable at all. I don't know if it was the new offense or maybe he let the hype take over or got overwhelmed by the hype. Then you add in his injury.

The guy looked like crap this year, but he gets bashed way more than deserved by fans on here who seem to have short memories. Morris was far better than JH, but Jh lost his confidence as well and Fisch helped him look halfway decent in the end. Before JH it was it was Marve, Wright, and Freeman (potentially the only qb I've ever seen that might be worse than Tebow). I love Kirby to death for being a cane and beating FSU on that final drive, but man that kid was not good at all.

Not really......
The guy wasnt highly thought of from the jump. Our fans took anything and tried to blow it up into something that never was there. First it was that he was hand picked by Whipple, which was partly true except that he was 6th or 7th on that list. Next it was the cannon for an arm he had, and we kept thinking he was gonna end up improving by leaps and bounds. Those injuries werent the reason he couldnt see the field or get a feel for the pocket.
