his senior season of h.s. at Michigan's camp he won fastest man. fwiw he's always been fast. the injury his soph season stayed in his head. that combined with his senior ankle injury made for a terrible running option at the qb position.
i think morris will set an all time low for the wunderlich test..Did you guys see that Stephen Morris ran .01 second slower in the 40yd dash than johnny football. pretty impressive and nobody would think it looking at game tape.
What do you guys think?
I think this is more proof that hs is not football smart. A smart QB uses all of the tools at his disposal to get the best possible result on each play, whether they be check downs, dump offs or scrambling for a few yards. He actually seemed to become a worse decision-maker his Senior season, and I wouldn't be surprised if he got enamored with himself after all of the talk of his draft potential, big arm and his showing at the Manning camp. I think he was too locked into the idea of going down field and fitting the ball into tight windows.
This might sound crazy, but other than size, I don't think Winston is more physically gifted than Morris. He just has much, much better football smarts.
i do agree that he did not appear to have high football IQ, but sometimes i do wonder how much of that is due to player development. my biggest issue with morris was that he was a 1 read qb and if that receiver wasn't open, he panicked. sometimes that is a result of coaching. our last 4 or 5 starting qbs have had the same problem with some of those guys (if not all of them) being 4 star recruits coming out of high school with kyle wright even being a 5 star. wouldn't it be too much of a coincidence that all of these highly touted recruits happen to be busts? i also think the new system under coley did not benefit morris and for whatever reason he struggled picking up the scheme.

I think people underestimate how much injuries impacted his development and psyche.
