SteMo Question

Where are these routes in the middle of the field that are open?

The harder throws are on the outside. If we are indeed avoiding the middle of the field then we're retarded cause that's where all the easy throws are and that's where the less athletic defenders are. That's where we have the most advantage.

I will say this however, when you have a QB with an arm like Morris then outside throws aren't difficult anymore.

Not that outside throws are difficult, but they become predictable. Every third down is an out or hitch outside the hashes. I just wish he would utilize the field more with some drag routes from our TE's or simple seam routes to keep the Safety's honest. That would open up the deep ball way more if Safety's feel that have to come up and protect the middle of the field.

North Carolina played the same type of game last year, drop your safeties back and make SteMo beat you with the under neath stuff. Unfortunately, patience is not his virtue and he forces the ball deep when the play is simply not there.

I just hope he sees how much more our offense can improve with better decision making and utilizing check downs and middle of the field stuff.

The middle is dangerous territory for SteMo. As the announcers were explaining last game, he tends to get lazy with his footwork and mechanics and that causes him to miss high on a lot of his throws. I would hate to see SteMo's INT numbers if he was throwing across the middle more...

^^^^^ this

+rep for not making me post it.

Here's my issue with our deep game, and this dates back to the FAU game.

We always run vertical routes from the #1 and #2 WR. Well that crap would work against a "hard" Cover-2 defense but the problem is...NOBODY PLAYS HARD 2 ANYMORE! (surprisingly UF was in Hard-2 when Dorsett caught his bomb, that's why it worked) Everybody plays Cover-2-Sink these days, which just has your CB run with #1 vertical until #2 goes to flats. Well if #2 doesn't run to the flats then you end up with #1 and #2 covered (by CB and Safety). It turns into Quarters coverage. And if the spacing between your WR's is bad then you end up with double-coverage on whichever deep route you decide to throw. (which is what happened on Dorsett's bomb against UNC)

The only way to beat 2-sink is to leak a player into the flats and get him matched up against the Outside Linebacker in space, or get a 1-on-1 match up with your Slot WR against the Safety. (via post routes or bender routes)

Saving all good plays and throws for Nov. 2nd... I have yet to see 4wide or 3wide with TE flexed or the 3TE set yet seem like its only been 3 formations and limited play calling just enough to win the game which has me stoked

spot on dude... And you saw what happen when Mo was wide open in the flat... Wide open... Unfortunately he was poorly over thrown

He struggles with this part of the game. He throws an amazing deep ball and some of his throws to the sideline are some of the best you will see but most of his INTs are when he is trying to force something to the middle. He either doesn't see the field well enough. I also think he wants the homerun way too much as well.

Part of it is SteMo's lack of anticipation. It's something that has plagued him throughout his career here and I thought he would have improved it coming into this season, but he really hasn't. Ryan Williams, though not the same level of prospect due to S. Mo's physical gifts, possesses the ability to anticipate and hit guys in stride. It's really a "feel" thing and some QB's never gain it.

Our offense could really take that next step if he would use the middle of the field. We are 6-0 and I am happy about that, but if you are progressing you're getting worse.

Agree, Warlord could be an animal on seam routes and would totally open up drag routes.

Morris is color blind. It worked for Dr. King. It didn't work for Vinny and it doesn't work for Morris.

He got 8 ints throwing outside routes, screens and deep balls... Fck it might as well start throwing over the middle...

Stephen Morris and Ryan Williams were about to leave the restaurant. They saw Andrew Luck highlights on the TV. Stopped. Studied the QB.

1) he makes them sound like robots

2) did he really go to the same restaurant and watch their every move.... Creepy

I have been wondering the same thing, are they saving a more varied attack for an opponent of higher caliber?

Morris had plenty of success using the middle of the field last year. Have no idea what is different this season. FWIW, jacorys favorite route, besides the post pattern was a deep out route.

we had players wide open in the middle of the field last game...

Uh, that's been every game. GTech, players running wild and free and the zombie throws into coverage. UNC, Waters, Coley and Warlord just chilling out, wide open, beaten their man and what do we get? PICK CITY BABY!!!!!
