State of CFB

The game was in worse shape when Alabama and Georgia were cheating like crazy and hoarding recruits.

I’m not a 12-team playoff fan, but parity makes it work and NIL plus the Portal has created parity.

I agree we need more limitations so everything is not a year-to-year free for all, but that will only come with collective bargaining.

Step your money up..

it’s to much fraud/scamming, crypto, drugs and plenty of legal money going on in Dade/Miami for the U not to be able to go and buy all the best players.. figure that **** out.

Let these kids get they money..

Most of my fellow CFB fans are not fans of this current system and agrees change is needed. Recent courts ruling JC players don’t lose eligibility, it seems we’re digging an already deep hole that will eventually collapse upon itself.

I’ve been a die hard Hurricane fan since 1993 and don’t foresee that changing but college football as a whole is losing something, certainly with this consumer and probably many others.

I think the playoff will probably have very big ratings, which won’t force anybody’s hand in power to make any changes for the better and that this slope will get even more slippery.

Can we see a “death” of cfb as we knew it? Would you turn away from this game?
most pundits want to move games up in the calendar. why not move to an NFL model. move portal to January after NC game. move spring practice to Summer 1. allow coaches to hold practice in Spring semester during 2 10 day windows. second portal window in April / May.. 15 day practice window open Summer 1. Then another 10 day practice window for Summer 2. Fall camp opens 30 days prior to teams first game.

Precedent has already been set that the ACC, B1G XII, MW are all on a lesser tier with 1 real spot for the playoffs.

Started a thread EIGHT years ago with a similar but more pessimistic title:

https://www.canesinsight.com/threads/alabamas-dominance-in-context-death-of-cfb.104100/

Funny to look back and see how a lot of what was posited in the discussion back then has come to pass; not in the exact form, but sure seems the $$$$ angle has won out.

Not watching the CFP and in general, to me at least, there is a malaise element taking over sports. People only now recognizing the NBA's ratings have been on a downslope, baseball being a toy for rich coastal billionaires, NHL determined to be in the Sunbelt...So Houston can fail like the Phoenix area team did. The NFL is mostly boredom personified and some "Swiftie" can take my place with 5X less disposable income.

It's post '72 cars all over again...

Hey, at least they’re keeping the sport* of curling pure!!!

*Not convinced it actually qualifies as a “sport.”

Also, I’m not ashamed to admit that I have no idea what “dressage” is and I can’t be bothered to google it.
If a woman can beat a man it’s not a sport.

Wait… so cam has 2 more years then, right?

If JC doesn’t count towards eligibility limits because there is no real path to making any money, which is what the ruling said, then Incarnate Word should also not count.

I travel to games every year. Have season tickets and I'm losing interest the more these talking heads are trying to ruin the season. They don't want the actual play on the field. They don't care about the actual sport. Hearing Herbstreit ***** about Indiana and having 9 win teams in over 11 win teams. Just hate it

Any sort of rules/regulations benefit the SEC as they will always get away with cheating and recruiting violations.

Open free market creates parity, but soon it will be whoever spends the most with corporations and entities buying teams.

The whole things a mess and it all stems from the corruption of the SEC. Emmert and Saban in particular.

Sad state of affairs. And what does the SEC hope to achieve with a 40 team super league? A bunch of 8-4 teams beating each other up for a "national championship."
