Stat I'd love to know

Another stat I'd love to know. How many scoring drives over 5 minutes do we have this year and how many drives of over 5 minutes have we given up? Anyone that knows please share

This is all the stats you need to know about this defense..... The defense is so terrible it makes the offense worse.

- Through our last 5 games (All ACC games) we are allowing an average of 465 yards per game

- Good for 109th in the country

- During that 5 game stretch, we are allowing 31.4 points per game.

- Good for 93rd in the country.

- We are averaging allowing 7.6 out of 15 attempts of 3rd downs to be converted a game

- 119th in the country

- We have sacked the QB an average of 1.8 times a game

- 76th in the country

**** man. You seriously need to calm your young *** down. You rush into every thread with your agenda, and constantly try your best to start issues. Every chance you get. You are no prophet, and there is no sense in always trying to attack people to try and get your point across.

You want to debate what is wrong with this team.....fine, but have some sense, and knock the teenager routine off.

What amazes me is on the one hand you have nycane, adamant that the D is being crippled by Morris' and his three and outs, tires out and is unfairly criticized.

On the other hand, you have zone who thinks that bc our defense is wretched, it somehow makes Morris' look bad when Morris is actually good.

The reality is the defense is bad. The scheme isn't working, our players cannot learn or execute it. Our talent level is laughable, and our depth non existent. Our LB coach has no effing clue about 3-4 fronts or zone blitzing, yet he is in charge of the most critical group on the D. Our DC cannot communicate his ideas properly, and is not fast enough in game to handle BCS level OCs. Our HC is being faced with the harsh reality that while his hybrid scheme he created at Temple was able to produce admirable results, in the ACC the moving parts make it sluggish and it doesn't work against this level speed (both player speed and OC adjustment speed).

The other reality is that Stephen Morris was brought in by Mark Whipple, who liked his arm. Our former HC never had any plans of having Morris play, bc TB was his next prized QB. Morris was a major project, a depth kid, that Randy appeased Whipple with. He has a very very strong arm, and throws a beautiful ball. He has zero field vision, zero awareness. He is inaccurate, and has terrible footwork. He struggles throwing against man coverage unless it's a go route where his WR is just too fast for the defense. He doesn't anticipate throws. He doesn't throw to spots. He has atrocious pocket presence, doesn't step up, doesn't side step, doesn't escape, doesn't run. He excels against slower zone defenses, and in a shotgun airraid spread, like ALL QBs do. He was a 3 star forgettable prospect that bc our last staff was so horrendous was our only option. He actually exceeded what his projection was.

Johnny Manziel has an abysmal defense. Yet when it's his time, he goes out there and kills it, b/c while he may not have Morris' arm strength, he is so much better at seeing the field, anticipating, throwing to spots, running, escaping, extending plays, going through progressions; they aren't even COMPARABLE.

Well said as I agree with just everything in your post. I must add however that despite his glaring weaknesses Stephen Morris tantalizes us by sprinkling in some truly jaw dropping and elite NFL type throws in terms of accuracy.
It's frustrating to watch because he is such a paradox in his skill set and potential. He is very raw yet possesses so much upside in certain areas but those are mitigated by equally horrendous flaws.

Offense: #73 38.9% with the average being 41.5% which means with our "strength" is below NCAA average on 3rd down conversion. This is coaching as you have to find a way to put your players in a position to succeed. Most teams would die to have one talent of a Coley, Lewis, Hurns, Scott, Waters yet alone 5 of them. We are 116th on TOP when we had a Heisman RB and a backup that would start for most team. A 3rd year Sr. starter who had a great offseason winning MVP at Manning Academy. When you have these types of weapons with stats that are this pathetic the finger needs to be pointed at James Coley. Take scoring offense out from FAU and SSU and the numbers above are even more concerning.

Defense: #58 38.7% with the average being 42.0% so we are actually ahead of the NCAA average. The fact that we have our defense on the field for 34 minutes a game is why the defense looks so bad. Take out SSU and FAU and the TOP numbers go even higher. The defense is terrible but James Coley is killing us where Mark D'Onfrio is looking bad because of it.

lol dont back track know... you, consigliere, and the other stooge ilovelamp where cheerleading and trolling me about this defense while trying to blame all of the problems on the offense up until the VT fiasco.

I know more then all 3 of you about what's going on in a football game, and the VT game proved it.

This defense has handcuffed this offense ever since the WF game but has been gotten progressively worse ever since the GT game.

AgendaZone3Cane, every post same thing. Defense sucks, offense good. Morris 1st rounder.
2012 Morris 71-122 58% 5 TD 1 Int on third down
2013 Morris 25-61 41% 2 TD 7 Int on third down.
3 Biggest games of the year. Offense 265 TY average, 8 for 35 on 3rd down, 6 TOs and 20 mins TOP.

If not for the running game and defense we lose to GT and NC. The defense won the Florida game with our 202 TY of offense.
The defense sucked against VT, absolutely abysmal but the offense has been abysmal in every big game all year.

3 and out is misleading. if you start off the drive with 10 yards, but then fail to pick up another first down, that's a 4-play drive. is that not just as bad?

how about looking at % successful drives versus % failed drives? pretty sure we force the fewest punts in the ******* nation.

The defense sucks.... u mad b/c the offense is better lol hilarious.

the offense is still a part of this team, it's your fought that you were clueless enough to think the offense was more of a problem then the defense.

You and most of the defensive cheerleaders on this site bring up Stephen Morris more then I do, never said he was a 1st rounder or talked him up in weeks just said he and this offense has more reasonable excuses as to why they arent an elite high powered Baylor type offense, while the defense has no excuses as to why they arent even an average defense.

I find it ironic that so many ppl say Morris is and was always a terrible QB but then at the same breath act like the offense was suppose to be this 60 point scoring high powered offense???... which one is it?

BTW the offense won the Florida game the defense just held the lead which is part of their job description.... the offense won every game in conference play this season and the defense has choked in every game in ACC play this season.

The offense's job is to score points. The defense's job is to not give up points. Both contribute to winning the game.
No'D and Highsmith = No'O and Morris
The offense is 8 for 35 on 3rd down against FSU, VT and Florida. That is 23%. That is pathetic just like our defense in ACC play.
