Staggering statistic about Mark Richt

To teach an academic subject is certainly not easy, but compared to coaching, it is. We can say 'two plus two is four' to every kid and be sure that we are right. But in coaching, we have to literally get to the soul of the people we are dealing with.

Amen!

8 and 4 and for the first time in years we have a coach that's solid. We have a team on the rise with many returning. We have a coaching staff that is truly developing kids into players. We have a defense that's respected and not thought of as a joke. We have a offense that is capable of steamrolling over most teams if Kaaya is clicking.

Many positives to stuff under the tree and we have a Bowl game that's in late December... Yeah, Life is good and it will get better over time.

Merry Christmas

We were 8-4 at this time last year. We were 9-4 in 2013. So we've been in the exact same place 2 of the last 3 years previous to Richt.

I can see both arguments for this season being positive or negative. But to me it just feels like we're in the same place we've been for the last 10+ seasons - a 7 to 9 win team with hope for the future.

Should've went with Leach or Butch

Then what? What was the guy that nobody but Washington St. wants going to do? Other than get fired for waterboarding a cheerleader of punching a player's mom. What was that guy nobody but FIU wanted going to do? Other than doze off while telling kids stories about things that happened when they were in diapers.

It's true that the record is what matters the most. However, can you really say that this year's team is no better than last year's? All 8 win teams are not equal. I mean Pitt and Georgia Tech are eight win teams. The truth is, Miami improved in almost every single area compared to last season. Now, those improvements have to eventually translate into wins but in the interim, you can't compare this team to last year's team or the 2013 team at all. I'm confident that the 2016 Hurricanes would smoke the 2015 and 2013 versions of the team.

Two things hurting Richt:

1. Rust as a playcaller and coordinator;

2. Cohesivness of staff. Thomas Brown is the OC and installs the game plan. Richts plan was to bring McClendon and Lilly along. Lilly was with Richt dating back to the FSU days and his right hand man. If you recall, Lilly called plays for Georgia after Richt was let go. I expect improvement as time goes by. Our terrible OL really hindered Richt's ability to run fast break.

I have to come clean. I have a couple buddies/frat bros that live in Athens and I used to tease them about GA not being able to win the big games because Mark Richt is too plain and his players don't play inspired. I even said a couple years ago they needed to fire him. I do love what he has done in the short term, turning The U into a "real" program and recruiting force. That said, I still believe his offense and play calling are lacking. The best thing he could do for this program is to hire or bring in a consultant pro spread set OC. This will elevate the offense (the pace, play calling and excitement) and make it more appealing to WR's. Recruiting is now at about 8.5 and we need 9.5 at minimum. He has to close on those 2 local Olinemen, Harley, Edwards and a surprise elite player, whoever that will be, to get the class at a 9. To lose 2 top "local" DB to the gates, hoping like **** Edwards signs and the top WR is devastating for hopes of rebuilding fast.

Like I said, I can see the optimistic side of the argument. To me the defense got much better, the offense underachieved, and the record stayed the same. This season felt more like treading water than making significant improvement.

And a healthy 2013 team was better than the 2015 & 2016 teams IMO. They just got unlucky with injuries.

Then you did not watch. In practically every metric save record, there was significant improvement, and not just on D, where it was AMAZING progress. This is a different football team top to bottom that IMPROVED at the end of the year. We've not seen a UM team run the last 4 since 2006.

WAKE UP Gator, pay attention or get lost. Fuggin people.

I have no choice but to suck it up and take him, because that's what we've got, but I've never been a fan of Richt as a HC. He is, and has been, the most overrated Coach in football for a decade. UGA fired him for a reason. He's drifted into Marty Schottenheimer territory.

He's a modern day John Cooper, and we won't sniff a title with him as coach.

I agree.

The improvement on defense was great, no question. But with basically the entire offense returning, and with Richt calling plays, a bigger improvement on Offense was expected. Statistically they may have been better, but they just looked bad for all of October. I did watch the games, and what I saw was less than I had expected.

The Pitt game was a good win. But for me, the way we looked against the bad teams at the end of our season, UVA-NC St.-Duke, doesn't erase my memory of how we looked against FSU-UNC-VT-ND. We looked great at the start of the season playing weaker teams, and we looked great at the end of the season playing weaker teams. How we look against quality teams is more of a measuring stick for me.

If we look good against West Virginia and finish strong in recruiting I'll be much more optimistic for next year, but I'm more cautious about my enthusiasm until that happens.

Just don't **** with the defense. I expect it to be top 10 next year if we can land the plug in guys in the secondary
