Yea you’re right. My issue with Diaz is that we made the same mistake as we did with Shannon. Hire a 1st time head coach. Shannon has his issues with the QB situation as well. His handling of the Jacory and Maeve situation was mind blowing. Although I do believe Jacory was better, RS oversigned qbs in 08, brought no kids in during the 09 season (AJ had been rumored to convert to DB), and allowed the other two QBs to transfer before the 09 season. However he was a 1st time HC. Manny is learning on the go as well, at UM we don’t have time to teach you how to be a HC.You are right, players do want to win, but more importantly, they want to know if a coach can get them to the next level, that's how butch davis was able to get guys when the program was trash, he was certified and guys knew enuff to know if jimmy johnson had him on his staff, that **** must know what he's doing. That's why its comical when people bash shannon, when it can be said to many degrees that coach shannon is from the jimmy johnson and butch davis coaching tree, as well as being his own coach who primarily was the one who set the tone at UM of players watching game film. We dont need bandwagon recruits coming to UM because we winning, we need the recruits that come in because they want to do what it takes to be Champions at UM. The key ingredient is having a headcoach who can galvanize and inspire these guys to Greatness by playing as one team. Real headcoaches wil, solve that problem, coach richt would've solved it, coach diaz created a problem and loss credibility by the way he handled the jw15 and transfer tate situations, and most importantly how he handled perry who the team luv's, the man is only the the qb on the team with the most wins and least amount of losses. If we want to be like everybody else, than just keep hiring these coaches that dont have no clue about what UM football is about, but if we want to be UM Great, the links to Greatness have to be there.
As far as the QB situation, I thought JW had what it took to be a star QB but his limitations are really obvious. I wasn’t that big on Perry when I saw him play last year. He was extremely accurate going short but anything beyond 15 was ugly. As for Tate, you can read the football board to get my opinion. The young man has a history of talking tough but college FBS p5 ball has been a humbling experience for him.
