Lol Langham balled out all of last spring and fall camp and Harris can play any WR position. Having them two guys on the field only helps us as a team..
You guys have to stop falling in love with freshman because they had more stars in high school
lol is this a joke?
Are you seriously not understanding how much better ALL 4 of the incoming WRs we are bringing in are than Langham and Harris?
Are you not understanding that Richards, Cager, Thomas, Harley, and Deejay are all already better than those 2 at WR?
Do you think because Langham made 2 incredible catches for us, that he can do anything that Njoku can't, especially in the redzone?
Anyways I think our depth chart at WR is going to be kinda weird. Richards is obviously gunna be our top WR, and he should only be coming out when he's tired or every once in a while to keep him completely fresh. Either way, his position is locked in.
Nailing down the WR depth chart is a very difficult task, because guys like Jeff Thomas will play both Z and Slot position. And Guys like Cager and Hightower can be both Z and X. Plus you need to factor in that Deejay Dallas was literally our backup Slot WR for most of the year, and did play in that role, but was needed MORE at RB, which likely wont be the case this year...though He will start out there. So there are a lot of factors to consider.
So my prediction, with an explanation is:
X: Richards > Cager > Hightower > Njoku/Langham > Wiggins
Z: Thomas/Cager > Pope > Harris > Ezzard/Wiggins
Y: Thomas/Dallas > Harley > Pope > Ezzard
TE: Jordan > Irvin Jr/Mallory > Polendey > Patchan
So basically what I have is Richards with the X position obviously, and that one is locked in. His backup is primarily Cager, as it has always been. If Ahmmon gets hurt, Cager will absolutely be the starting X WR. After those two, Hightower is going to beat out Langham and Njoku. Just way more talented than Langham, and Njoku is still coming off that acl injury (I expect Njoku used primarily in the redzone). Wiggins is likely a RS target if we even do RS any WRs. But Either way he's likely one of the last WRs on the depth chart. He's defintely more talented than Langham and Dayall Harris, but them being seniors, is going to elevate them to earning more PT than they should imo.
Then at the Z position, well Thomas was our starter all last season here, but he got like 50% of snaps here. He does not have very good endurance, and since he runs deep so often he does leave the field a bunch. So he is probably the guys that is most guaranteed to see the field after Richards. The question is will it be at the Z or Slot? I really don't know, but he will play a **** ton (and will also come out a **** ton). Then after Thomas you have Cager, becuase while he is Richards backup, Richards will rarely leave the field unless injured, and Cager as of right now is our 3rd best WR. So to get the best players on the field, he's going to be playing a lot of Z this yr. So basically Cagers main responsibility is to the X position if Richards gets hurt. After Thomas and Cager we got Mark Pope who imo is the most talented WR we have coming in. He's a great fit at the Z or slot position for us, he's going to get a good amount of snaps this yr.
Finally in the slot position we have the starters being a tie between Jeff Thomas and Deejay Dallas. Now first off, I think we are going to be running less 3 WR formations than we did last season. We're going to be running under center with a FB more, I think thats a guarantee. And more 2 TE formations with Brevin and Irvin jr or even Brevin and Mallory split out to the slot. Regardless, Thomas and Dallas will be first pick to play Slot. If Dallas is serving as Rb and Thomas serving as the Z WR, then Harley easily steps in as our primary Slot WR with Mark Pope as the backup who has a chance to beat him out for the spot. After those two, I think Ezzard could get a few reps in at Slot WR. I think his toughness would be excellent on the inside. He's obviously big enough to play on the outside, but man he could terrorize that middle of the field.
