Spring game thoughts

Who do we need to worry portals out tomorrow?

ColeM?
Pickett?
Samson?
Patterson?
Robinson?
Why would Cole M and Samson transfer out? Cole was out all spring with an injury, and will definitely be in the dline rotation. If Samson sticks it out, he will be a starter in 2026 and has a chance to even get some snaps this year as well

ColeM, Robinson, and i'm pretty sure Patterson were all injured for Spring, so i wouldn't anticipate them jumping in the portal, Booker Pickett didn't hear much about him this spring, Samson might be the big one, but maybe he sees the opportunity for next year with 4/5 of the Oline most likely leaving after the year (Cici, Anez, Brockermyer, Bell, Rodriguez)

I think it was the last Spring Game. Real Spring games are closed now. The word was out on what it was going to be and why some people you would have expected to go, didn't. They should be done with it, after what they put out there. In my opinion, Spring in general was about hiding info about players playing well except for the very young players, so players don't get tampered with. I think some were talked up like they could maybe start, that have no chance of starting. Look at who was held out of the game or barely played. Not just the embarrassment of calling it a game. I personally think it's a bad look. Truth!

Do you think they'll be replaced by a exhibition game like Syracuse and Colorado wanted to play? Even though that sounds fun and TV/attendance-worthy, I can't see teams playing their starters in full contact.

I wouldn't compare Malachi to Xavier he seems too athletic he reminds me a lot of Santana Moss very explosive and has that competiveness to him, Xavier is a hard worker who really came out of no where and had a real good career at Miami.

Love Toney. But I don't think he has elite speed like Santana. He can be a special player without being compared to one of our all-time greats.

There has to be money in it. Otherwise players and teams are risking injury for free.

Random thoughts, opinions and observations below:

Hot take: Nickel will be the backup QB if he keeps progressing at this rate.

2nd on the Pringle observations. He is a running back who is also a sprinter, not the opposite. I am excited about him.

Defense, from what I saw, sat in Palms (Quarters, Read-2, Cov. 4, etc.) all day and it looked functional. For the love of god I hope we get good at this base coverage. We need to develop some IQ in coverage. Last year was an abortion in any pattern match zones and we weren't good in Man-Free. Man-Free was the lesser of two evils and we also got schemed up because of it. We saw the result.

People got ****ed at Emory for checking down to the flat all day--it was the correct safe read in the coverage we were in. I would have liked to see him find some soft spots in the middle or down the field. He is too mechanical--but we all know that. Nickel had the balls to go down field. I'm a fan.

We aren't very good right now--but that isn't unexpected at this point. We get the QB back and we get the defense organized, and we have the personnel to put together a strong season. People don't want to hear this, but we will win a lot of games on ball control and depth. WE WILL RUN THE BALL.

We need another outside receiver.

Earlier in the spring I thought we needed another LB. I don't think that anymore.

Add some depth in the portal and let's roll.
Thanks for the candid insights. I’m on the Nickel wagon.

Go Canes!

He’s unique. Dont know if there’s a comp to him. Honestly probably WR1. Idk if trader can stay healthy and traders head is in the clouds…. Will see what happens when the lights come on. But he’s a stud.

Ok I'll be the one to say it. I'd take Beck throwing left-handed over Emory or Judd.

Not even close to Santana’s speed. The comparison to X is that both are dogs - crafty guys who figure out how to get it done
