Sporting News hyping up next years team

I'm not a drink the kool-aid guy, and the funny thing is that I kind of agree with the Sporting News.

In a stronger conference we wouldn't have the same shot to backdoor our way in like we do in the ACC, but with the talent and favorable schedule we have, and experience at key positions, it isn't completely out of the question to think we run the table next year.

/put a gun to my head today, I predict 10-2.

how could the Sporting News write such a pro-UM article when it is part of the national media that posters claim "hates the U"?

I can haz nashonul champship??

Oh please football gods, remove your yoke of bondage on The U and let it be true.

how could the Sporting News write such a pro-UM article when it is part of the national media that posters claim "hates the U"?

yes, because one national publication writing a positive article means the other hundreds of publications don't have a general bias towards the University of Miami

Notre Dame's turnover margin increased +23 from 2011 to 2012.

I think Raphael Kirby, Deon Bush, Rayshawn Jenkins, Eddie Johnson and Denzel could help facilitate a similar spike in takeaways. Not to mention, our ENTIRE secondary will be WAY better than Notre Dame's was/is.

it's not one article. if anything, there's a bias for prognosticators to rank us higher than we should be. throughout our progressive decline from Coker through Shannon, we were consistently ranked higher pre-season than we should have been, and certainly higher than we ended up at the end of each season. ****, herbstreit picked us to win a title one year under Shannon.

the notable exception were the predicitions going into this past season, where the sportswriters did not expect us to do well, largely because of our youth and inexperience.

I wasn't even disagreeing with you, although I do think there is a certain bias against Miami. My problem was that you chose one article to be snarky and condescending.

Its a process, as corch would say. Hopefully the lads understand their assignments by now. This should lead to a further teaching development of stripping techniques without thinking.

Defense just needs a few more stops and a turnover per game.............Because our offense is going to be like

I like scoring defense, personally.
^^^^^^^^^

^^^^^^^^^^^me to without a doubt.

I love it when the opposing teams march up and down the field on us only to give up a field goal.

It's great when the strength of your team is offense but we don't get as many possessions as the other team because our defense is ranking high in scoring defense yet gives up 30:00 in possession and 500 yards per game.

scoring defense is where it's at. Forget getting off the field with momentum shifting 3 and outs. Who needs that mess?

Turnovers, FGs, Missed/Blocked FGs can shift momentum too. I hear ya on the limited possessions but, I think scoring defense does outweigh total defense. This years offense was also the architect of the poor defensive play. We had a lot of quick 3 and outs ourselves throwing the ball around. The offense wasn't a time possession offense either and the D coulda used a break here and there.

I'm not making excuses we weren't a good scoring defense either but in 2011 the problem was offense not defense we gave up yards but not points (excluding VT) and we nearly won every game.

It's inarguable to say the D wasn't the problem this year but there were a lot of times the offense didn't do a whole lot to help out the D.

Golden himself stated after the season that him and Fisch made a conscious effort to play wide open on offense because they didn't have faith in the D and that was a scary statement to hear because it is a sort of negative attitude to have. Still, I respect Coach Al and if he felt that was the best gameplan then so be it but, we can't win if we don't manage the game from both sides of the ball as best as we can.
