The UM football coaches did not agree with playing as grueling a non-ACC slate as it did in 2012 (Notre Dame, Kansas State, USF, plus overmatched Bethune Cookman), and here’s the new preferred approach: one marquee game, two games in which Miami will typically be favored, and one versus a lower-division school.

For the 2014 season, UM will play at Nebraska and home against Florida A&M and is working to finalize home games against Southern Mississippi and Arkansas State, both part of a home-and-home series.

Also booked:
For 2015: Nebraska, at FAU… 2016: at Notre Dame, FAU, and Florida A&M… 2017: Notre Dame… 2018 and 2019: home-and-home with Rutgers… Also, UM will play a home-and-home with Toledo between 2015 and ’18… 2020 and 2021: home-and-home with Michigan State. Many games will be added, with advanced talks progressing on a home-and-home with Penn State.

Both are stupid opponents to play on the road.

If you are going to play sub-par teams, at least play in states that your recruit.

LTech or Tulane or UL Laf for Louisiana

Rice or SMU for Texas

San Jose State or SDSU for California

I don't get these matchups. Do we really recruit Mississippi or Arkansas?

We recruit a lot of Missisppi kids and they have a big time juco school as well. Would have rather played ole miss but southern miss works

Honestly, since Golden took over name all the Miss kids we recruited (i.e. had offers).

EXACTLY! Where are we getting all this talk about us landing and recruiting Miss kids?? Lee Chambers? Lol. And Ark St? Cortez Kennedy and Adrian Wilson? So 3 players (that I can think of off the top of my head) in the last two decades and we are putting these guys on our schedule? And we wonder why our games are always on ESPNU. Smh. I get what Golden is tryna do. But ****. That "preferred approach" they have works if you are in the SEC but when you play in the ACC it doesnt fly. JMO.

Instead of looking at the state, why don't you look at where the schools are in that state.

Southern Miss is in Hattiesburg, which is 2.5 hours from Baton Rouge and 1 hr 45 min from New Orleans, not to mention about 2.5 hours from Pensacola. That's a relatively fertile recruiting ground within a 3 hour drive of Hattiesburg. Arkansas St is fairly close to Memphis, so that could help in that area, though I don't know how great that area is for recruiting.

Now, do I think we should be playing a home-and-home with these teams? Arkansas St, no; So. Miss, eh. VaTech did something similar by playing at ECU to get in with the eastern NC talent (which has produced some good talent), so us doing the same with So. Miss isn't too bad. Arkansas St is pretty stupid but I guess it could be worse.

Miami can no longer afford to pay these teams to come and play us only at home anymore. We usually have to pay out around 500k to 800k to get them to come. The alternative is now home and home with them. So quit *****ing, buy season tickets, and contribute to the athletic department and STFU! Thanks for listening.

I wish we would schedule games out here against Cal, UCLA, even the Arizona schools. We have a strong alumni base out here and recruit the West Coast.

Honestly, I don't see the point of cancelling the Memphis series if we're making trips to Southern Miss, Arkansas St and Toledo...might as well just kept it

In a lot of ways Los is right. Buy tickets and contribute to the Athletics fund and we'll be able to stop these embarrassing road games.

As a fan, "support" comes from the pocketbook as much as the voice.

Hmmmmm..I don't know when u guys started following the canes but we have NEVER had good fan attendance so wtf are u talkin about? Even in the golden eras unless we were playing a top 25 team u could expect 35-40k at the games tops. So buying season tickets is very minimal in the equation IMO.

(And I have had season tickets for over 30 years.)

There have been several kids we recruited from Miss under Golden. I am on a road trip or I would look it up. A few stud D ends and a Qb just last cycle all had offers.

Mississippi has more NFL players per capita than Florida. It's a great place to start recruiting. Not to mention that big JUCO out there where Hooks went and a bunch of other players we are recruiting.

Toledo is in Ohio, which is where we go for offensive linemen.

Arkansas State University is a 45 minute drive from Memphis... which is where Corn Elder, Mike Sawyers, etc are from. A bunch of talent out there that's UM friendly.

So don't yall worry, Al's got this.

VT's AD Weaver said the same thing regarding the Hokies. The "body bag" games with FCS teams are starting to cost more. He suggested that the ACC plays 10 conference games. Of course his idea didn't fly with the other ACC members... Saban suggested that the 'Big 5' conferences play only each other... The B1G has already said that they will no longer be playing FCS schools...

With the FBS playoff system already in place, maybe playing these type of games will be the "new" thing. From a business standpoint, it make sense to do these type of games.

Sawyers and Corn play in Nashville. Corn is from Murfreesboro.

Southern Miss used to give in state tuition to kids from New Orleans, so it basically is a Louisiana school, at least for recruiting purposes. Selfishly, I'd rather play Tulane since I'm an alum, but USM would be good too.

USM has a nice campus, a good gameday atmosphere, and a nice small stadium. It was crap, but they pumped $$ into it recently. They got Texas, Cal and Nebraska to all go there.
