South Florida prospects impact

Pete - just curious - what other SoFla kids do you see being "leader" types whose commitments would have pull on the rest of the kids? I would think Sony & Cook because of talent, and Lane seems extremely vocal (his twitter feed is really something else....). Who else? What about on defense?

Very important. I asked this in another way on a thread about a month ago. I think the most frequent answer was Winky Flowers.

It's the facet of Wilson's recruitment (or lack of) that concerns me. He seems to be a leader on SFE, tight with Lane, and his dad (and University crew in general) seem very vocal on social media & websites.

You are not wrong, I just hope this doesn't factor in to whether we recruit the kid or not. The message sent then is: make enough noise and you will get your way. Completely wrong message to send. If we recruit him it should be because he can play.

I agree, but there's an amount of risk/reward that needs to be assessed. If 5 SFE kids that we badly want are going to follow him to FSU or Louisville, was that 'statement' worth it (I am NOT saying that's the case...)? Not my job to answer that, and I generally trust Al... but as an observer it makes me queasy to think about it. Nothing grates me harder than hearing SF kids going elsewhere and then coming back down and trashing UM or pumping up somewhere else (i.e Joyner with 6, Bridgewater recruiting sofla kids to Nowhereville, KY, Cooper with Bama, etc.)

Understood. I think you make a really good point and a valid one, if it were me though and all things were equal I do not want decisions based on "this isn't going to play well on Twitter."

Who in this past class is better than Olsen, AQM, Sandland, Dobard, Elder, Griffin and company that Golden missed on?

Two that come to mind immediately that I believe were Miami caliber were Skai Moore and Jesus Wilson.

Chad Thomas is the man on the defensive side of the ball. Very well-respected. Lane has a good rep as well.

doubt you intended it this way, but it sounds like you're down on the '13 class a bit.

I'M NOT.

I love the elite athletes brought in from the 2013 class, but it was still a huge failure on the DT front. I like, don't love the class overall. They just didn't do as well in South Florida as they hoped for.

Aside from the DTs, MT, and AC who from SoFla would you take over:

Devante Bond
Standish Dobard
Augustus Edwards
Cornelius Elder
Alex Gall
Derrick Griffin
Ryheem Lockley
Al-Quadin Muhammad
Sonny Odogwu
Kevin Olsen
Beau Sandland

It is what it is. The NCAA was absolutely crushing us in SoFla! Add to the fact that we were/are extremely late jumping on kids in the process. AG and Co have to change their recruiting philosophy for SoFla. It seems this year the staff has taken a different approach by offering many kids and getting on them early and often, especially kids from SoFla. These kids down here love the attention and most are courted for 3 years! Staff needs to be on these kids all day everyday and we will be fine. Kids want to be Canes!

I can see why you have been negged into oblivion............

No kidding. Late in the process? Lol...

If we can win 9 or more next year, wrap it up boys. Bandwagon will not be big enough.

Winning will only help Alin and Yearby recruit. Al and the current team MUST help these recruits help them. Kids would be on UM like flies on ****. Not just SFla kids but nationwide.

Nothing more overrated than recruits recruiting other recruits.

/5X voice off (but he would be right)

Yea, but I'm talking about more in terms of recruits wanting to be apart of good classes. A kid from SFla generally thinks higher of another SFla prospect compared to an out of area kid.

Moore was a loss because we missed on Thomas. Wilson was not a loss because we are stacked at WR and we proceeded to sign the best WR in the state. Outside of Skai we targeted the right players, SF just wasn't that stacked last year.

even with skai, we targeted the right people, even if u think he is a long shot, no way dont recruit the best LB in the nation that lives within 20mins of your school...really the comparison comes between Grace and Skai and i would take Grace all day...and i agree with you, with only taking 1 WR last year I would take AJL and Coley over Jesus Wilson everyday of the week and twice on saturday
